Product description
For the circumaural ATH-AWAS headphones with wooden housings, we have chosen the rare Asada Zakura (Japanese cherry birch).
The vibrant red wood is well-known in loudspeaker construction and is used particularly for high-end speakers due to its finely detailed acoustic properties and durability. It suppresses unwanted resonance within the earcups and provides a clear, natural hi-fi sound. The hand-applied silk-matte finish further emphasizes the delicate grain, warmth, and beauty of this noble wood. Our Asada Zakura headphones feature exclusive 53 mm drivers with a powerful magnetic circuit, a pure iron yoke, a diamond-like carbon (DLC) coated diaphragm, and voice coils made of high-purity 6N-OFC (oxygen-free copper) wire – for first-class audio reproduction across the entire frequency spectrum.
The exclusively developed Double Air Damping System (D.A.D.S.) divides the housing structure into two acoustically separate chambers, resulting in a particularly pleasant and accurate bass response. The housing support arm is made of a lightweight, highly rigid magnesium alloy and, thanks to its angled position, ensures a first-class fit and excellent isolation properties. For optimal wearing comfort, the earpads and headband are also covered with soft synthetic leather.
Another highlight of the headphones is the A2DC (Audio Designed Detachable Coaxial) connectors, which allow for a secure connection with the two included detachable 3 m cables. One cable features a gold-plated 6.3 mm stereo plug for use with standard audio equipment, while the other features a balanced 4-pin XLRM connector for use with the latest high-resolution digital audio players, as well as improved channel separation.
What does "high-resolution audio" mean?
Hi-Res Audio at a glance:
Many music fans believe that high-resolution audio formats were introduced with the Compact Disc in 1982, but the limited storage space on such an audio CD (standard resolution 44.1 kHz / 16-bit) did not allow for the original recording to be truly reproduced in its entirety.
With the introduction and rapidly growing popularity of the MP3 format, this problem became even more apparent. The compression required for MP3 files leads to a significant loss of audio information, which also impairs playback quality. However, with the development and increasing availability of lossless audio file formats, higher internet speeds, and larger storage media (the data of which is also transmitted in increasingly smaller packets), the path was cleared, and more and more devices came onto the market that could record and play back true Hi-Res audio material – typically defined by a resolution of 96 kHz / 24-bit or higher.
The "Hi-Res Audio" logo certifies that these products meet high-resolution media standards, which for headphones require a transducer frequency of at least 40 kHz.
Audio-Technica has been producing premium audiophile headphones since 1972, making it well-positioned to develop high-quality audio solutions that meet the requirements of the Hi-Res Audio format and optimally reproduce high-resolution media.
