Product description
Product description
The housings of the ATH-AWKT premium over-ear headphones are crafted from rare Japanese Kokutan (striped ebony) hardwood. This rare material, with its attractive black and brown stripes, has long been used for woodwind instruments and piano keys, as its high density suppresses unwanted resonances and ensures a particularly clean, natural tone.
The hand-applied semi-gloss finish optimally highlights the grain of the precious wood, making every pair of headphones a unique product that only gains beauty over the years.
The exclusively developed 53 mm drivers with a highly efficient German Permendur magnetic circuit ensure exceptionally precise audio reproduction with a wide sound field, and the lightweight, rigid titanium flange plus voice coil made of high-purity 6N-OFC (oxygen-free copper) wire allows the diaphragm to react to the audio signal with the utmost finesse, while ensuring high-precision signal transmission.
The exclusively developed Double Air Damping System (D.A.D.S.) divides the housing structure into two acoustically separate chambers, providing a particularly comfortable and accurate bass response. The housing support arm is made of a lightweight, highly rigid magnesium alloy and, thanks to its angled position, ensures a first-class fit and excellent isolation properties.
For optimal comfort, the earpads and headband are covered in soft, durable sheepskin. The headphones are equipped with A2DC (Audio Designed Detachable Coaxial) connectors, which allow for a secure connection with the two included, detachable 3-meter cables. One cable features a gold-plated 6.3 mm stereo jack plug for use with standard audio equipment, while the other features a balanced 4-pin XLRM connector for use with high-resolution digital audio players for improved channel separation.
What does "High-Resolution Audio" mean?
Hi-Res Audio at a glance:
Many music fans believe that high-resolution audio formats were introduced with the compact disc in 1982, but the limited storage capacity of an audio CD (standard resolution 44.1 kHz / 16-bit) did not allow the original recording to be reproduced truly completely. With the introduction and rapidly growing popularity of the MP3 format, this problem became even more apparent.
The compression required for MP3 files leads to a not insignificant loss of audio information, which also impairs playback quality. But with the development and increasing availability of lossless audio file formats, higher internet speeds, and larger storage media (where data is transmitted in increasingly smaller packets), the way was clear, and more and more devices came onto the market that could record and play back true Hi-Res audio material – usually defined as having a resolution of 96 kHz / 24-bit or higher. The "Hi-Res Audio" logo certifies that these products meet the Hi-Res Audio standard, which requires headphones to have a transducer frequency performance of at least 40 kHz.
Audio-Technica has been producing premium audiophile headphones since 1972 and is therefore ideally positioned to develop high-quality audio solutions that meet the requirements of the Hi-Res Audio format and optimally reproduce high-resolution media.
