The product with which the AVID brand made a name for itself in the global hi-fi scene at the turn of the millennium was the ACUTUS analogue turntable, highly praised by numerous critics. Many music lovers found a new way to enjoy their LP collection with this fantastic turntable. However, the AVID development team did not want to rest on their laurels; instead, they incorporated the technical progress, accumulated knowledge, and new ideas of recent years into the conception of a new, even more elaborate power supply and motor control system, and named the combination with the well-known turntable the ACUTUS REFERENCE.
The extremely sophisticated power supply unit makes the turntable the absolute highlight of the current AVID product portfolio. It was created as part of a dedicated development project spanning more than three years, provides an incredible 1,000 watts of power, and represents the most stable linear power supply we know of. The innovative DSP motor control is so precise that micro-vibrations of the motor unit are almost completely eliminated.
The robust and extremely smooth-running motor is handcrafted, features an exceptionally precise bearing, and utilizes a new dual-belt drive system that ensures more reliable grip and better control. An analysis of the metallurgical requirements for moving components has also led to the refinement of the bearing system, which is self-lubricating and free-rotating while eliminating any unwanted movement. Thanks to these measures, the ACUTUS REFERENCE impresses with a significantly lower noise floor that is not just subjective but immediately noticeable, a frequency range extended in both the bass and treble, and significantly improved dynamics.
