AVID's entry-level turntable, the INGENIUM Plug & Play, also shares numerous genes with the larger turntable models. The T-shaped chassis, to which the bearing and tonearm are firmly connected, is made of 6.35-centimeter thick solid aluminum, thus forming a stable, absolutely torsion-resistant base for the turntable. The INGENIUM rests on three elastomer feet made of Sorbothane, a dimensionally stable yet elastically deformable plastic. This ensures the turntable stands securely while also dampening vibrations and externally induced movements extremely effectively.
Borrowed from the larger DIVA II are the platter and the platter bearing, which is a so-called inverted bearing. It consists of an upward-pointing conical steel bearing spindle, with a small tungsten carbide ball resting on its flattened tip. The outer part of the bearing, which is firmly connected to the sub-platter, rests on this. Due to the conical shape of the bearing and the small ball, the bearing is virtually wear-free and exceptionally quiet. Consequently, it requires almost no lubrication. Only a thin film of oil is needed, which is automatically fed from a small reservoir above the bearing level. The motor is completely external. It stands behind the chassis in a heavy motor housing, which is decoupled from the surface by a rubber ring and drives the inner platter via a classic round silicone belt.
The INGENIUM Plug & Play is delivered with a pre-mounted tonearm and cartridge. Thus, the INGENIUM Plug & Play is far more than an affordable entry into the world of AVID HiFi turntables; it is a standalone, sophisticated, and sonorous record player that elevates the listening of analog discs to a new level of quality.
