With the re-release of the OVATION A 6.2 in a new Master Edition, we at AVM have fulfilled a wish of our own with this special model, and we are pleased to offer you the A 6.2 ME—a high-performance amplifier in a refined edition at a friendly price. This price, reduced compared to the original A 6.2 model, was made possible by creating a Master Edition version of the integrated amplifier that borrows heavily from the larger A 6.3 and A 8.3 models in terms of shared components. We are passing on the resulting cost savings to offer a sonic heavyweight at 22 kg in a sophisticated aluminum chassis for a sensational price—even including the RC 3 full-aluminum remote control. Like all OVATION line models, the A 6.2 ME arrives in a befitting AVM flight case.

The technology behind it

The A 6.2 Master Edition is a Class A/AB amplifier built with MOS-FET transistors in its output stages. Due to their design, these transistors are significantly faster than bipolar transistors, but much more difficult to handle. Concepts using ideally matched transistor characteristic curves have helped AVM achieve new levels of performance here. Our Baden-based premium manufacturer first implemented this principle in the flagship power amplifiers of the OVATION line. The speed of this MOS-FET-based circuit gives the A 6.2 ME an unprecedented level of sonic detail. At the same time, AVM's special single-ended circuit topology for the output stage realizes the incredibly powerful, full, and warm sound of the A 6.2 Master Edition.

The effort invested in the sophisticated circuitry is immense: independent power supplies feed all stages of the A 6.2 Master Edition individually, effectively excluding unwanted mutual interference between amplifier stages. The input stages are completely DC-coupled and fully balanced—incoming signals from the asymmetrical inputs are buffered and balanced directly behind the input jacks. In addition, the input stages are consistently designed as a dual-mono architecture. Two identical circuits on two independent circuit boards, each with its own onboard power supply, allow for crosstalk isolation between the left and right channels that lies beyond the measurement ranges of our test equipment. The 256-step volume control and the tone control are also fully balanced (this effort yields approximately 3dB better signal-to-noise ratio in each case) with less than 0.05dB channel deviation at all volume levels.

The MOS-FET power amplifiers of the A 6.2 Master Edition are designed with a single-ended architecture and borrowed from the power amplifiers of the OVATION flagship series. All circuit boards are constructed with extra-thick 75µm pure copper traces, fully gold-plated, and coated with thermally tolerant black lacquer. All boards are assembled locally at the AVM factory. The driver stage has its own separately controlled operating point adjustment. Our AVM engineers have used all their know-how in the design of this sonically particularly relevant amplifier stage: the LEDs used not only signal that the A 6.2 ME is functioning properly but are also significantly lower-noise than conventional "Zener diodes." The power amplifiers are supplied by a 1000 VA main transformer developed specifically for the A 6.2 Master Edition. The power supply is supported by in-house AVM Ultra-Quick capacitors in parallel connection with a total of 120,000µF (that's 0.12F!).

The new Class A headphone amplifier is equipped with a completely self-sufficient amplifier unit and operates entirely independently in Class A mode. This amplifier stage is positioned behind the 15-millimeter thick front panel. The entire OVATION chassis of the A 6.2 Master Edition is reminiscent of a small safe, but this is again merely a means to an end, as the A 6.2 Master Edition can be effectively cooled this way and is correspondingly torsion-resistant, so that all components can be effectively protected from unwanted external influences such as vibrations. One more detail: the ball-bearing knobs and their axes are turned from a single piece, requiring no set screws. Behind them follows a long axis leading to the bolted potentiometers.
Further connection details: Via separate preamplifier outputs, for example, additional power amplifiers such as the ideally suited OVATION SA 6.3 can be connected for optional bi-amping operation—in both balanced and asymmetrical modes. The A 6.2 Master Edition is completely updatable, so that further functions can be easily added in the future. An active phase indicator also helps you connect the power supply correctly. Many useful "little helpers" work in the background of the A 6.2 Master Edition, contributing to maximum operating convenience: protective circuits prevent damage, e.g., in the event of connection errors, and soft-mute functions suppress noise, e.g., when switching at full volume. The A 6.2 ME remembers the last volume level played and wakes up from standby at that same level. Many settings can be adjusted to your individual needs: for example, inputs can be renamed or levels can be matched to one another. Home theater loops (so-called AV Pass Through) are selectable.
Like all audiophile masterpieces from AVM, the A 6.2 Master Edition is handcrafted at the factory in Malsch—the vast majority of suppliers, e.g., for the precision chassis parts, are also located in the immediate vicinity. Repeated, intensive quality checks during all production steps and a multi-day break-in period for every single device long-term secure our promise of highest reliability.
