Since our founding year in 1986, the development and production of phono preamplifiers have always been at the heart of AVM's focus. For several decades, our phono stages have been regularly winning awards and reference titles worldwide. We continuously test, tinker, and refine our sonic performance in countless listening sessions, and as a result, we now present the PH 30.3, a completely new phono stage.

Technology

The sensitive small-signal amplifiers for RIAA pre-equalization require very special attention, as they process the smallest electrical signals in the entire audio chain, often only a few µV (10-6 volts). The tiniest errors have major consequences, and the most careful signal processing has an extensive impact on the sound.

In addition, with our ROTATION turntable models and our own AVM.3 Cadenza MC cartridges (made by Ortofon), we also have high-performance cartridges in-house. This gives an idea of the immense care our development team with trained ears uses to build a sonically excellent phono preamplifier that can also be combined with high-end components at the highest level. At AVM, we have not only built up decades of proven and globally valued know-how for this – our production methods also ensure extremely precise manufacturing quality in serial production.

The PH 30.3 is suitable for amplifying the small signals from MC and optionally MM systems. Separate connections are available for this purpose. We deliberately avoid sonically inferior switches (so-called DIP switches). To ideally match the MC cartridge system of your choice to the PH 30.3, 100/200/1000Ω load adapters are included. These load adapters are also equipped with gold-plated plugs and are thus effectively protected against aging processes (e.g., corrosion due to humidity). Please refer to the documentation of your cartridge system or ask the manufacturer which value is recommended for your system. Phono load adapters are plugged into the designated sockets in parallel with the MC systems.

Features of the PH 30.3

For the PH 30.3, we rely on sonically optimized circuits from our repertoire and borrow from the current phono stages of the OVATION line. We paid special attention to shortening the signal paths to the first amplification stage to ideally protect the small signals to be processed from electromagnetic interference. In contrast to its two predecessors, the P1.2 and P30, we now use completely newly developed amplification circuits and use novel, exquisite, and finely selected amplification components. The layout was developed in our state-of-the-art CAD design systems, which allowed the signal path to be shortened by almost 80%.

The making of

The solid aluminum housing made of a thick extruded profile, which is manufactured exclusively for us, effectively protects the special circuit board from external mechanical influences and microphonic effects. Extensive quality control, which secures our production standards, is a matter of course for us and comes with a 2-year warranty, with 2 additional years upon online registration of the PH 30.3.
