For Cayin's 30th anniversary, we are introducing the Pearl 30i, a flagship integrated tube amplifier with an exclusive construction: The Pearl 30i consists of two dedicated and perfectly matched chassis units. One houses the entire amplifier technology, while the other is dedicated exclusively to the power supply. A full four power transformers are at work here. This ensures that the left and right channels are cleanly separated and independently supplied with high and low voltage. Strictly selected components and a sophisticated arrangement of the gain stages ensure a high-end experience on an entirely new acoustic and visual level.

Housing and aesthetics

The two units of the Pearl 30i can be placed either on top of each other or side by side. In the tower configuration, the unique design of the new Cayin flagship truly comes into its own. The black front and the fanned paneling of the amplifier section give the Pearl 30i a look that is instantly memorable and conveys the impression of having something special before you. In the center is the volume knob, which is infinitely adjustable in 106 steps. The internal JRC Muses 72320V controller ensures precise adjustment of the level selection. Directly above it is the elegant wooden paneling. Embedded in it are four toggle switches and a VU meter. These switches serve to turn the VU meter and its backlight on and off, switch the timbre and operating mode, and select the input channel. The front is rounded off by a display that provides information about the currently selected channel.

Separate chassis for optimal power supply

For the optimal drive of the components, the Cayin developers have outsourced the energy supply for this exclusive amplifier to a separate chassis. Here, the power is split between the left and right channels and processed effectively by two power transformers each. In this way, the power-hungry high-voltage amplifier stages are optimally supplied, as are the components designed for low voltage. From said energy unit, the processed power is then transmitted to the amplifier unit via the corresponding outputs and the supplied cables specifically designed for this purpose. Equipped with SF20 connectors, a 7-pin configuration, and silver-plated 6N copper cable, Cayin provides the optimal conditions for supplying the Pearl 30i effectively and in accordance with its performance requirements.

Tubes for optimal sound and the perfect bias

The tubes of the Pearl 30i are enthroned on the top of the chassis. They are the acoustic heart and the visual highlight of the integrated amplifier. Two Mullard CV4004/12AX7 tubes provide the pre-amplification of the signal. In the driver stage, four TungSol 6SN7GTB units on porcelain sockets take care of further signal processing. Only then is it passed on to the power amplifier. The finishing touch is provided by eight KT-170 type tubes. Here, the signal is brought to output level using the Class AB1 push-pull process. The windings of the high-purity copper strands in the output transformers surround Z11 audio-grade silicon steel sheets to ensure outstanding signal purity. An elaborate auto-bias circuit ensures perfect bias adjustment. This achieves optimal operation and the longest possible service life for the tubes. Operation is monitored by an optical bias monitoring indicator. If this detects irregularities, the amplifier switches to a safe operating mode so that errors can be sought without danger.

Sound by choice

When outputting the signal, one can choose between two operating modes: The triode mode offers a harmonic, soft sound. This preset is particularly recommended for instrumental music and pieces where voices and singing are especially in focus. For higher power potential, however, the ultra-linear mode is recommended; it is better suited for dynamic music. Further adjustments to the sound are possible with the selection of the timbre. The dynamic mode promises a denser, fuller sound, while the soft setting offers a smoother sound profile. Of course, personal taste is always the deciding factor in the end. The described options, however, invite you to discover your personal favorite sound. All these settings, including input selection and volume control, can of course also be made from the sofa using the included remote control.

Versatile connections

To make the Pearl 30i the comprehensive center of your HiFi setup, Cayin provides a multitude of connections. Signals fed via the total of four pairs of line inputs or the balanced XLR input run through the complete signal processing. Those who prefer to use their own pre-amplifier will find an RCA pre-in and a balanced XLR pre-in for this purpose. Which input is currently selected is shown on the large dot-matrix display. On the output side, the Pearl 30i also provides two ports for connection to active subwoofers. Inside, next to the sockets for connecting the two modules, are the speaker outputs for speakers with four or eight ohms impedance. The output power is 145 watts RMS/channel in triode mode. In ultra-linear mode, 230 watts per channel are provided.
