Product description

The Hugo TT 2 has been redesigned from the ground up, not just with a beautiful new chassis by chief designer John Franks, but with five times the processing power of the original Hugo TT and double the processing power of the multi-award-winning Hugo 2. Over 2 years of digital development from Rob Watts have gone into the Hugo TT 2, and it utilizes the latest technology.

As expected, it delivers radically improved technical specifications and measurements across the board, demonstrating drastic sonic improvements over its predecessor with 768kHz PCM and DSD 512 playback. Hugo TT 2 sets new standards in table-top audio and is only surpassed by DAVE.

Compared to the 256-tap filters used by conventional chip DACs, the beating heart of the Hugo TT 2 is a powerful Xilinx Artix 7 FPGA, custom-programmed by Rob Watts of Chord Electronics. 86x 208MHz cores run in parallel to create an advanced 16FS WTA 1 filter with 98,304 taps. This is twice as many as its multi-award-winning transportable sibling, the Hugo 2 (49,152). The Hugo TT 2 also benefits from an upgrade from a 4-element design to a 10-element design, which works in harmony with the radically improved FPGA and code to deliver unparalleled sound.

A brand-new, high-power discrete output stage with integrated second-order noise shaping between the DAC output and the filter ensures a massive reduction in distortion. Further improvements have also been made to the power supply. The Hugo TT 2 abandons the Li-Po battery power supply of the original and instead employs six supercapacitors that can deliver huge, linear dynamic currents with a peak output of 5 A and 9.3 V RMS when the music demands it.

The Hugo TT 2 also brings back the popular four-stage, user-selectable filter controls introduced with the Hugo 2 and retains the three-stage, user-selectable digital crossfeed function for headphone users who want to improve depth perception, similar to speakers.

The Hugo TT 2 can be upgraded at any time with the M Scaler, our 1-million-tap digital upscaling device.
