The Clearaudio TT5 is a tangential tonearm representing a unique approach to tonearm design. Unlike classic pivoted tonearms, the TT5 does not move in an arc across the record, but follows the groove linearly (tangentially) – exactly the same way it was created during the record mastering process.

This construction almost completely eliminates the so-called tracking error. As a result, the cartridge remains perfectly aligned with the groove at all times, which reduces distortion and enables a particularly clean, precise reproduction.

The tonearm moves along a finely polished glass tube, on which a carriage is guided by high-precision, dry-running ball bearings. This movement is driven exclusively by the stylus itself – completely passively and without a motor.

The design is deliberately minimalist and dispenses with the complex additional mechanics of the larger models (TT2, TT3), making the TT5 a comparatively accessible entry-level solution into tangential technology.

Another advantage:
Since no lateral forces are generated, no anti-skating is necessary, which simplifies adjustment and eliminates additional sources of error.

Optionally, the TT5 can be equipped with a "Swing Base," which allows the entire arm to be swung to the side – convenient for changing records.

In terms of sound, the TT5 impresses with a very clean, low-distortion soundstage with high precision and a calm presentation. It shows particular advantages over classic tonearms in the inner grooves.
