The Clearaudio Universal is a high-quality, reference-class high-end tonearm and ranks among the most sophisticated radial tonearm designs from the manufacturer. It was developed to combine maximum mechanical stability with the highest tracking precision and long served as the top-of-the-line model among Clearaudio’s classic pivoting tonearms.

At the core of the design are high-precision, selected ball bearings for horizontal and vertical movement. These ensure extremely low-friction yet highly stable guidance of the tonearm, allowing it to follow the movements of the cartridge precisely without introducing its own distortions or colorations.

The tonearm tube is made of carbon fiber, combining high rigidity with low weight. This effectively minimizes resonances and enables smooth, controlled tracking. The construction is designed to extract even the finest details from the record groove with precision.

A special feature is the very convenient and precise adjustment: azimuth, tracking force, and VTA can be set exactly, optionally even during playback using a VTA lifter. This allows the tonearm to be optimally adapted to a wide variety of cartridges.

The Universal is available in both 9-inch and 12-inch versions and is compatible with almost all common cartridge systems.

In terms of sound, the tonearm is characterized by an exceptionally stable, calm, and simultaneously highly detailed reproduction. It combines control, dynamics, and precision with a high degree of sonic neutrality, firmly placing it in the high-end reference class.
