The reference D/A converter from Pro-Ject: The DAC Box RS2

In the age of digitalization, comprehensive digital equipment is essential. The Pro-Ject DAC Box RS2 is a fantastic-sounding and highly versatile D/A converter and the perfect partner for the crème de la crème of high-end amplifiers and loudspeakers. It is the perfect partner for anyone looking for a modern D/A converter with a multitude of digital inputs and a fully balanced design.

The DAC Box RS2 is based on the incredible Pro-Ject Pre Box RS2 Digital and uses the same superb-sounding converter chips, but omits an analog preamplifier. This allows the DAC Box RS2 to fully concentrate on its job as a D/A converter.

The Pro-Ject DAC Box RS2 implements the dual-mono configuration of the top-class D/A converters from ESS Sabre. The ESS 9038Q2M chips offer the highest sound quality in high-end circuits. Unlike most D/A converters in this price range, the DAC Box RS2 contains two converter chips and separate signal paths for the left and right channels. Thanks to these converters, the DAC Box RS2 also supports files up to 32-bit / 768 kHz in PCM and DSD format (up to DSD512) via USB and really plays all digital files that you can buy or stream.

The analog output is designed in parallel with both solid-state and high-quality tube technology. This allows you to choose which sound you prefer.

The DAC Box RS2 features eight digital filters. One of them is the proprietary "Optimal Transient Digital Filter" from the MQA developers. You can use these filters to further customize the sound to your preferences. The DAC Box RS2 comes with full HW and SW support for MQA (Master Quality Authenticated) technology.

The DAC Box RS2 processes the USB input signal with a powerful multi-core XMOS microcontroller with advanced multi-core RISC architecture. For re-clocking, it uses the CPLD MAX II (Complex Programmable Logic Device) chip from Altera, which, together with the XMOS microcontroller, enables high-quality processing of both classic and MQA technology.

To get the most out of this excellent technology, it is best to connect the DAC Box RS2 to the Pro-Ject Stream Box S2 Ultra and use the TIDAL streaming service. You can also enjoy MQA quality by connecting it to the revolutionary CD transport system, the Pro-ject CD Box RS2 T. The CD Box RS2 T can be connected to the DAC Box RS2 via HDMI using the reliable I²S differential bus, with the latter also providing the master clock (16.9344 MHz).

A full aluminum remote control is included in the packaging, and the DAC Box RS2 Digital is available in a high-quality silver or black aluminum chassis. On the large display on the front, it shows all relevant information clearly and in a structured manner. The navigation menu is very responsive. This allows you to set up your DAC Box RS2 to your liking in seconds!

The brushed aluminum chassis is available in silver or black finish.

Note: Bitstream formats such as Dolby Digital® or DTS® are not supported.
