The DALI IO-12 headphones are designed and developed using the same sound principles as our floorstanding speakers. With technologies like our patented SMC magnet driver material, a low-loss rubber surround, a rigid paper fiber cone, and low-resonance enclosures, the IO-12 delivers the same low-loss sound with the ultimate clarity and dynamic performance you would expect from any DALI speaker. SMC Drivers
DALI is recognized worldwide as a pioneer in the use of non-conductive magnetic materials. This includes the unique SMC ("Soft Magnetic Compound") used in our speaker drivers. For instance, our exceptional audiophile DALI KORE speaker owes its extraordinary reproduction quality, among other things, to the use of SMC. And now, for the first time, this same patented SMC technology has been integrated into a pair of headphones in the IO-12.

Despite their difference in size, headphone and loudspeaker drivers share a very similar architecture. In a DALI SMC headphone – just as in a DALI SMC loudspeaker – the driver components that might otherwise be made of iron-based materials are manufactured using SMC. While SMC is highly conductive to magnetic fields, it is electrically non-conductive. Consequently, the use of this material ensures that the movement of the voice coil does not generate distortion-inducing eddy currents. SMC also minimizes the modulation of voice coil inductance, which in turn significantly reduces distortion. Thus, the use of SMC in the DALI IO-12 leads to a clear increase in clarity and musicality. SMC represents a groundbreaking advancement in headphone audio quality – and only DALI uses this material.

Paper Fiber Cones
The cones of DALI speaker drivers are manufactured exclusively from proprietary paper and wood fiber materials, which we have continuously refined over decades. The IO-12 drivers utilize a very similar paper fiber material, which employs randomly oriented fibers of varying lengths. This creates a lightweight yet rigid cone characterized by optimal damping. The result is a natural, relaxed, and detailed soundstage.

Certified for Hi-Res Audio
The IO-12 supports the playback of audio signals with resolutions from 16 to 24 bits and sample rates from 32 to 96 kHz. The internal audio processing of the DALI IO-12 is based on 48 kHz audio sampling – this is the sample rate also used by most USB and Bluetooth aptX Adaptive streaming audio sources. This means that sample rate conversion (a process that often leads to audible artifacts) is generally not required. The result is pure, transparent sound. The IO-12 also supports a sample rate of up to 96 kHz via USB. This results in a frequency response of 48 kHz without downsampling – that is ultimate sound quality.

Wired and Wireless
Our goal in developing the IO-12 was clearly defined: we wanted to develop headphones that deliver excellent results both in wired and wireless use. As a classic (passive, analog) headphone, the IO-12 is one of the highest-quality products available today. But as a wireless headphone, with modern noise cancellation and high ease of use, it is also the perfect companion for any type of digital signal source.

Bluetooth aptX Adaptive
The DALI IO-12 supports aptX Adaptive – the latest and most powerful version of the wireless Bluetooth audio streaming protocol. It offers the same sound quality as previous versions, but features a much more effective low-latency codec as well as adaptive functions that intelligently optimize the streaming bitrate for various media types and wireless usage scenarios.
