After 35 years in the loudspeaker business, DALI’s first wireless over-ear headphones made their debut at IFA 2019 in Berlin. The difference between the IO-4 and IO-6 models is that the IO-6 also features integrated active noise cancellation.

The IO-6 can be controlled via Bluetooth® 5.0 using smartphones, tablets, PCs, or TV sets, and also supports the high-resolution aptX® HD and AAC codecs. The latter is required for optimal sound quality when connected to all Apple devices.

Drivers with 50 mm paper fiber diaphragms and optimized neodymium magnet systems ensure the typical DALI sound with low distortion, minimal coloration, and distinct fine dynamics.

The most important functions of the headphones are controlled via three operation elements: The DALI logo on the right ear cup acts as a multi-function button for play, pause, skip forward/backward, and answering or ending calls; the volume is adjusted by pressing lightly on the top or bottom part of the ring surrounding the logo. "Clear Voice Communication" (CVC) ensures optimal voice quality during calls made via the headphones' hands-free system, while the soft pads completely enclose the ears and effectively seal out ambient noise.

To enjoy music or audiobooks completely undisturbed on a train or plane, the DALI IO-6 features exceptionally effective electronic noise cancellation (ANC). Instead of being completely isolated, a mode called "Transparency" can also be selected, which allows a certain amount of ambient noise to pass through.

The battery life of the IO-6 headphones is up to 30 hours with noise cancellation activated. Naturally, the headphones can also be used without battery power if required by using the included cable.

After the IO-6 was initially only available in the two colors Iron Black and Caramel White, the addition of the new Army Green and Chalk White variants at the beginning of 2021 provides a wider selection.

With over 35 years of experience in the development of high-quality DALI loudspeakers, we have decided to apply our passion for music and our expertise in excellent sound quality to the development of wireless headphones as well. Since headphones are essentially a pair of small loudspeakers mounted on the head, DALI's IO models are your personal set of portable hi-fi transducers, allowing you to take the authentic DALI sound with you wherever you go.

NOISE CANCELLATION

The DALI IO-6 is a closed-back headphone that isolates ambient noise to a high degree simply by the way the ear pads sit. However, since low-frequency noise cannot be kept out in this way, the DALI IO-6 is equipped with state-of-the-art active noise cancellation (ANC).

Three different ANC modes can be selected via a button on the right ear cup: ANC on, ANC off, and a transparency mode.

With active noise cancellation switched on, the IO-6 actively minimizes low-frequency noise, such as that encountered on a plane, on a train, or when traveling by bus.

If ANC is deactivated, ambient noise is only blocked passively by the ear pads.

In transparency mode, the headphones allow ambient noise to pass through to a certain extent and mix it into the audio signal. In this way, for example, announcements on the platform, conversations, or other ambient noises can be easily followed despite wearing the headphones.

When listening with active noise cancellation, you are not only completely shielded from disturbing ambient noise, but you also hear your music in a much more relaxed and detailed manner. In addition, the playback volume can be reduced, which decreases the potential for long-term hearing damage. Whether at home or on the go: DALI's IO-6 takes you into a completely new dimension of music listening.

COMFORT & DESIGN

The stylish DALI IO-6 headphones are ergonomically designed to sit comfortably and securely on any head. The ear pads are made of a memory foam that naturally adapts to the head, not only keeping the headphones perfectly in position but also acoustically sealing them from the outside world to create consistent acoustic conditions.

The lowest possible weight was a key requirement during the development of the DALI IO-6 so that the headphones can also be worn easily for a longer period of time. Every single component was carefully selected for its weight, without compromising on quality or durability.

To ensure the headphones meet all the challenges of mobile life in addition to use at home on the sofa, they are protected against dust and water splashes in accordance with the IP53 certification. And because the ear cups can be rotated 90 degrees in both directions, the headphones can be laid flat for compact storage or hung comfortably around the neck.

LONG BATTERY LIFE

Listening to music for days without recharging – this requirement was also on the minds of DALI's development engineers. A powerful 1100 mAh lithium-ion battery enables a runtime of up to 30 hours. Such a long battery life guarantees the freedom of not having to worry about an impending power failure.

So that you always know how much power the battery has left, the IO-6 reports the current battery charge level with a voice prompt every time it is switched on. In addition, the battery status is also visually indicated by two multi-colored LEDs on the right ear cup.

And even if there is no more power available, the passive mode of the IO-6 keeps the music alive. Simply connect the headphones to your audio device using the included mini-jack cable and run the DALI IO-6 in "Off" mode.
