The elegant RUBICON 6 C floorstanding speaker represents our approach to bridging the two worlds of high-quality music reproduction and digital audio streaming. The RUBICON 6 C is part of a wireless speaker system that allows access to digitally stored music data and the offerings of online streaming services in the best possible quality, and enables playback without complex and space-consuming HiFi electronic components.

Due to its volume and the two 165 mm woofers/midrange drivers, the RUBICON 6 C is capable of delivering powerful and deep bass reproduction, even in larger living spaces. The sound level is at least on par with the original passive RUBICON models. Their speaker drivers and cabinet constructions are used here unchanged – complemented by the amplifier technology from the CALLISTO series and wireless audio transmission via the DALI Sound Hub.

The RUBICON 6 C is available in three cabinet finishes: high-gloss white, high-gloss black, and satin walnut, and comes complete with rubber feet to ensure the speaker stands securely and excels both aesthetically and acoustically.

CABINET

The cabinet of the RUBICON 6 C offers separate chambers for the woofer/midrange drivers and woofers. This allows the cabinet volume to be precisely optimized for each respective driver and the frequency range it covers. Furthermore, there is an individual bass reflex port located directly behind each woofer, which reduces turbulence to a minimum and optimizes the timing between the woofer and the reflex port. Multiple internal braces also prevent unwanted cabinet resonances and sound coloration.

AMPLIFIER

Developing a high-quality active speaker system involves numerous aspects. A truly important part is the amplifier, or more precisely: the amplifier module.

Instead of using an analog crossover as in the passive RUBICON 6, the individual drivers of the active RUBICON 6 C are driven directly via a digital sound processor and the two amplifiers integrated into each speaker. In this way, developers can optimally coordinate the DSP, amplifiers, and drivers to achieve particularly detailed reproduction.

One of the two 250-watt amplifiers is reserved for the two 165 mm wood fiber woofer/midrange drivers. The combination of a particularly low-loss design, wood fiber cone, and SMC pole piece enables these woofers to exhibit only minimal distortion. Together with the particularly musical Class D amplifier, an extremely detailed and dynamic performance is guaranteed.

The Class D amplifiers are based on state-of-the-art patented technologies; they are self-oscillating and operate with global feedback, which is used due to its musical characteristics. To adequately reproduce complex musical passages or intense explosions in movies, 250 watts of power are available for pulses lasting up to five seconds.

WOOFER
The cone is surrounded by a soft, low-loss rubber surround that was developed from scratch and tailored for the RUBICON drivers. The surround ensures that the cone can move easily and without energy loss.

All components are fixed in an aluminum basket that allows maximum airflow around the cone and magnet system. The use of a non-electrically conductive aluminum basket further ensures that the magnetic field around the magnet drive is not affected.

The use of SMC (Soft Magnetic Compound) in the RUBICON 6 C woofer/midrange drivers brings many advantages, the most significant of which is the significant reduction of distortion caused by mechanical losses in the magnet drive. The unique ability of SMC to combine high magnetic conductivity with very low electrical conductivity enables the use of a truly good speaker magnet without the disadvantages of conventional designs.

The "secret" consists of powdered, individually coated magnetic granules that make it possible to form a strong, non-conductive magnet. The conductivity is only about 1/10,000th that of iron. With SMC, a speaker driver operates almost free of hysteresis and therefore with virtually no distortion.

HYBRID TWEETER
The hybrid tweeter module, long a DALI trademark, combines a soft dome tweeter with a ribbon tweeter, offering resolution and dispersion characteristics superior to all other tweeters.

The extremely soft and light dome membrane is so thin that a coating is required to reinforce the material and ensure a uniform surface. Through computer simulation, the magnet system was further improved to maximize saturation flux density in the area of the voice coil. Thanks to this, and the use of an extremely thin-bodied magnetic fluid for cooling, the tweeter possesses a very linear force factor across its entire excursion, resulting in more controlled movement, higher power handling, and lower distortion.

The second part of the hybrid module, the ribbon, is a magnetostatic tweeter. Four bands of conductive material form the active diaphragm, which is driven by a strong surrounding magnetic field. Ribbon tweeters have very wide dispersion characteristics, and in combination with the dome, the module covers the frequency range from 2 to 30 kHz. This extreme bandwidth, together with the wide dispersion, represents an important part of the DALI sound philosophy.

BLUESOUND HUB BLUOS™ NETWORK MODULE

The new Bluesound HUB makes it possible to integrate virtually any analog and digital audio source into the BluOS™ network, regardless of its location in the house or apartment. If, for example, a CD player, TV, or analog turntable with a magnetic cartridge is connected via cable to a HUB, this device can be played back via any BluOS™ player, such as Bluesound speakers or NAD streaming amplifiers in the network. That’s not all: since each HUB is capable of managing two sources simultaneously (one analog and one digital), and up to four HUBs can be added to a network via the BluOS™ app setup wizard, the BluOS™ ecosystem can be expanded to include numerous audio devices located in different rooms. Playback is controlled centrally as usual via the BluOS™ app on a smartphone, tablet, or desktop PC.
