The DALI SUB C-8 D can be used as a supplement to both a HiFi system and a home cinema. In both cases, it reproduces low frequencies with great accuracy and clarity.

The placement of a subwoofer has a major influence on bass reproduction. We recommend positioning the SUB C-8 D in a corner or, if that is not possible, directly against a wall. These locations ensure maximum bass levels and even sound distribution in the room. Thanks to its compact dimensions, the SUB C-8 D is much easier to place compared to larger subwoofer models.

Over the years, our engineers have developed a set of sound principles that are now found in every DALI loudspeaker. The subwoofers must also meet the requirements for a wide dispersion pattern, precise timing, and the lowest possible loss. Endowed with these DALI genes, it provides impressive movie and music reproduction in small to medium-sized living rooms.

AMPLIFIER

The Class D amplifier used in the DALI SUB C-8 D mobilizes an RMS output of 170 watts and operates with exceptional linearity. Furthermore, thanks to a peak power of 220 watts, it has sufficient reserves to reproduce both music and film soundtracks with an impressive low-frequency foundation.

To ensure rich, reliable performance under all conditions, the amplifier is equipped with a limiter circuit. This circuit compares the amplitude of the input signal with the output signal, as well as the voltage provided by the power supply with the expected output level. If any inconsistencies arise during these comparisons, the limiter temporarily reduces the power slightly without any noticeable decrease in playback volume.

With its controls for volume, crossover frequency, and phase, the DALI SUB C-8 D can be individually adapted to work with most loudspeakers and room acoustics. And thanks to separate LFE and LINE inputs, it can be driven by almost any amplifier or receiver.

A modern switch-mode power supply reduces power consumption in standby mode to just 0.4 watts. Combined with the high-efficiency digital amplifier, the SUB C-8 D achieves an impressive 70% efficiency and therefore generates very little heat. Consequently, the subwoofer does not require a heatsink.

WOOFER

The DALI SUB C-8 D features a downward-firing 200 mm woofer. Its cone, made of high-quality pulp, is not only exceptionally stiff, light, and agile, it also offers excellent reproduction characteristics.

The heart of the drive system is a large ferrite magnet, which ensures maximum magnetic flux density in the voice coil gap. This is because our developers' goal was for the SUB C-8 D to reproduce both quiet nuances in music and the high sound pressure of bass impulses or film explosions. Measurements and numerous listening sessions have shown that we have clearly come very close to this goal.

The 26.5 mm long voice coil allows for very large excursions. It is air-cooled in the interest of the most uniform impedance curve possible. The pole piece is also well-ventilated to minimize internal compression in the drive system. This ensures free movement of the cone without disruptive overpressure or underpressure.

The surround follows the DALI philosophy of lowest possible loss and ensures large and highly linear excursions. The strikingly large surround is designed to convert both very quiet signals and heavy impulses into undistorted acoustic signals.

ENCLOSURE

The MDF cabinet meets strict DALI requirements regarding stability and low resonance. Two finish options are available, Black Ash and White, which should integrate perfectly into most living environments.

Four large polymer feet effectively decouple the enclosure from the floor. The 30 mm gap between the cabinet and the floor prevents the formation of disruptive turbulence – and because the driver and bass reflex port fire downwards, the subwoofer not only achieves excellent efficiency, it is also easy to position in any living room.
