The driver has been significantly upgraded based on insights gained during the development of the Ether 2. The new ear pads now provide more effective isolation thanks to their thicker side walls and are also backward compatible with 1st generation pads.

As the ÆON was a popular headphone for both home and on-the-go use, the desire for more compactness was often expressed. Dan Clark Audio has addressed this request by developing a sophisticated gimbaled folding headband, which allows the ÆON to fold into an extremely compact case for transport. Naturally, the extremely low weight of 321 grams remains, which has a positive effect, especially during longer listening sessions and when traveling.
