Product description

Dan Clark Audio introduces the E3

With the E3, Dan Clark Audio (DCA) has completely redesigned the legendary closed-back Ether C Flow headphone.
The striking black-and-blue design, ergonomic shape, and Gorilla Glass 3-clad ear cups of the E3 are an exceptional detail of the exciting upgrades to this product line.
The E3 is a closed-back headphone that combines the open-back listening experience characteristic of DCA with all the benefits of a closed-back capsule. The E3’s excellent isolation creates a pitch-black background that highlights the incredible realism enabled by the combination of the patent-pending Acoustic Metamaterial Tuning System (AMTS) and the brand-new 5th generation driver. The result is an outstandingly smooth, detailed sound experience with a massive, wide-open soundstage without any sense of confinement.
At the same time, the E3 is just as comfortable as every other DCA headphone. The highly acclaimed self-adjusting headband and ergonomics make long listening sessions a pleasure.
By offering Top-Of-The-Line (TOTL) sound and comfort at the price of a mid-range headphone, DCA has set a new standard for headphone performance in this class, making the E3 one of the most exciting headphones to date and bringing unrivaled DCA performance to a much larger audience.

Acoustic Metamaterial Tuning System (AMTS)
A crucial feature of the E3 is the improved AMTS tuning system, previously only found in the multi-award-winning TOTL headphones Stealth, Expanse, and Corina. The E3 brings this extraordinary technology not only to a more affordable headphone, but also in a new type of implementation.
All headphones are subject to high-frequency standing waves, which can cause the treble to sound harsh, fatiguing, or synthetic. AMTS is a patent-pending inline system placed between the transducer and the ear that integrates waveguides, diffusion control, and resonators into a compact structure that eliminates these standing waves while allowing full control over the high-frequency response profile.
This AMTS tuning architecture is not a general one-size-fits-all solution, but is individually tuned for each headphone to provide the ultimate headphone listening experience.
A new deployment mode was developed for the E3 that differs from previous implementations. High frequencies are reproduced in a refreshingly smooth, precise, and detailed manner across all genres.

Revised magnetostatic drivers
The brand-new 5th generation magnetostatic driver delivers the smoothest, richest, and most detailed experience DCA has been able to develop to date. These innovative diaphragms are manufactured with an entirely new tensioning system that ensures uniform and consistent performance, lower distortion, and improved consistency.
Extensive research and development went into optimizing the E3 planar driver. New diaphragm materials combined with an optimized V-Planar corrugation ensure low distortion across the entire listening range and a level of detail previously only found in high-end electrostatic models.
Unlike many other headphones where "detail" is created through exaggerated high-frequency energy, the E3's new drivers, in combination with AMTS, deliver exceptionally high resolution without the fatiguing distortion and harsh frequency response that users might be accustomed to.

Dual-mode porting
Another innovation is the so-called dual-mode porting. While it is not uncommon to find a bass port on a closed-back headphone, the special dual-mode port offers unparalleled control over the bass frequency response, ensuring an excellently balanced, impressive bass experience that is punchy yet free from bloat or mid-range bleed.

The sound
The E3’s 5th generation driver and AMTS deliver an amazing balance of sensitivity and nuanced reproduction with explosive dynamics. And it is not just about sound and timbre: the E3 offers an astonishingly large soundstage that can compete with even the best open-back headphones in terms of depth, width, and imaging.

Comfort
At Dan Clark Audio, ergonomic design is of the utmost importance. Because what is the use of a great-sounding headphone if you can only wear it for a short time?
The E3 benefits from all the ergonomic refinements, including the highly acclaimed self-adjusting headband suspension system also found in the Stealth, Expanse, and Corina, as well as the practical and elegant folding suspension that makes the E3 a compact travel headphone.

Gorilla Glass
The E3 is a stunningly beautiful headphone, visible from the leather-wrapped headband to the new Gorilla Glass 3 finish on the ear cups.
Gorilla Glass 3 consists of a thin layer of alkali-aluminosilicate that makes the glass stiffer and more scratch- and break-resistant. The design of the pattern under the glass is reminiscent of the weave of an open-back headphone – a nod that highlights the exceptionally open listening experience of the E3.

Conclusion
With the E3, the focus was entirely on offering the most exciting sound experience possible, independent of price. This, combined with an exciting new look and a high level of comfort, makes the E3 the most exciting headphone released by Dan Clark Audio to date.
The E3's soundstage, punchy bass, silky mids, smooth highs, and abundance of detail are equally convincing across all musical genres and will provide an exceptional listening experience. Without any signs of fatigue, the E3 will ensure you browse through your entire music collection again to experience music like never before. In short: the E3 is a lot of fun!
