The P20 is our entry-level preamplifier, offering an affordable gateway to the Hegel Reference product line. The design of the P20 was not a task we took lightly. Many of the ideas and concepts were adopted from its big brother. Although it has been scaled down, many of the great qualities remain – the enormous soundstage, the deep rhythmic bass reproduction, the perfect timing... In short, the feeling of being there with the performers.

The P20 comes with a high-quality system remote control, milled from a solid piece of aluminum. It has the same bead-blasted and anodized surface finish as the preamplifier itself. You can truly feel the quality of the individual parts of the P20, not just hear it. There are a total of 5 regular inputs, both balanced and unbalanced. Furthermore, a dedicated home theater input allows for integration into home theater systems. Finally, there are both balanced and unbalanced outputs as well as a fixed line-level output.

The idea behind the P20 was, as mentioned, to offer a more affordable entry into our separates series. Above all, however, it was intended to set a new standard for price and performance in preamplifiers. We believe we have achieved that. The preamplifier is perhaps the most sensitive device in a sound system. Because signal levels are so low, even the smallest noise or distortion smears the image and obscures the small details that bring music to life.

In developing the P20, we achieved the highest sound quality at such a low price point through the use of brand-new technologies, such as silicon-germanium transistors. In addition, we used high-frequency components that were not originally designed for audio and used them in a way never seen before. The result is an open and natural-sounding preamplifier at a very competitive price.
