In the HiFi industry, experiments regarding the effect of crystals on current-carrying conductors have been conducted for many years. In addition to various DIY projects, such as those using tourmaline granules, there are various suppliers that offer dummy plugs filled with quartz for equipment tuning. Since the early days of high fidelity, others have described the sonically beneficial effect of rock crystal on tube amplifiers. It is claimed that the close proximity of crystals affects the conductivity of metals, though no clear documentation can be found to support this.

Bernd Ahne of HiFi-Tuning is one of those people who likes to try things out for himself. He therefore attached a whole range of miniature semi-precious and precious stones to his fine-wire fuses. In this setup, the stone is located in the immediate vicinity of a sound-relevant electrical conductor, but does not touch it, as it is positioned on the ceramic middle section of the fuse. The result: In his experience, almost all the test subjects actually have some effect on playback. In the end, however, it was a small diamond that convinced Ahne, because it conveyed the feeling of a more open soundstage with expanded dynamics, without causing undesirable side effects in the tonality of the fuse.

Further experiments with tiny diamonds then showed that (unfortunately) a gemstone with a high degree of purity works better than a less pure stone, even if the latter is larger. Ahne also determined that the further the stone is from the electrical conductor, the larger it must be to unfold its effect. These findings led to the creation of the Supreme³ Diamond fuses.
