The HE-R10P is HIFIMAN's first "true" closed-back, magnetostatic headphone and a statement in its own right, as this dynamic-style headphone is inspired by a legendary predecessor.

The HIFIMAN HE-R10P is a reinterpretation of the Sony MDR-R10 model, highly coveted by audiophile collectors. This headphone was released in 1989 and cost a staggering 7,500 DM by the standards of the time. HIFIMAN adopts its characteristic design, which was developed to combine a relatively large volume with minimal reverberation. The ear cups of the HE-R10P are CNC-milled from solid cherry wood and finished with a satin cellulose lacquer that is resistant to fingerprints.

The HE-R10P performs differently than what most headphone enthusiasts are used to from closed-back models. It is not a powerhouse that celebrates thumping bass above all else, but rather an exceptionally natural-sounding planar headphone dedicated to hours of relaxed musical enjoyment. The headphone reaches its full potential after about 200 hours of break-in time. That is when you experience a truly dry, punching bass foundation, a silky fondness for vocals, and a finest, velvety high-frequency range. The Sony MDR-R10 would be astonished to know what has become possible today.

The HIFIMAN HE-R10P is ideally suited for listeners who do not want to disturb their environment with an open-back design or who wish to shut out surrounding noise. Those with a high-quality headphone amplifier should try balanced operation via the 4-pin XLR connection.

As is typical for HIFIMAN, the ear pads are made of a material blend that offers maximum wearing comfort. A polyester fiber is used for the side facing the ear, while the inner and outer sections are made of synthetic leather. Naturally, the pads can be easily replaced when their condition requires it. The height adjustment is slightly notched, and the headband is made of genuine leather. The conductors of the three headphone cables are each routed in a silicone tube and protected by a sturdy nylon weave.
