The Black Cube phono preamplifier is now upgradeable with the PWX power supply unit. More authenticity in the bass, more effortless mid-range, more dynamics.... All the positive effects that improve sound quality with a significantly oversized power supply unit practically elevate the playback quality of the Black Cube. Essential to the achieved sound quality is the power supply's 30VA toroidal transformer, which is designed as an interference suppression transformer with a grounded shielding winding. This makes the PWX a filter power supply for common-mode interference components on the mains voltage. Important: The interference suppression winding leads to a drastic reduction of potential voltages between ground and earth! Only a few millivolts are measurable. Phasing the device connected to the PWX therefore becomes superfluous. Components without an interference suppression winding in the power supply transformer, on the other hand, have potential voltages of up to nearly 100V! The PWX power supply unit provides a low-noise symmetrical DC voltage of approx. +/- 15V for the Black Cube.
The mains transformer is fused on the primary side. The mains cable is connected to the PWX power supply unit via an IEC socket. A switch was consistently omitted to avoid unnecessary contacts in the signal path. The necessary connection from the power supply unit to the audio section is realized by a professional Neutrik XLR connector with gold-plated contacts. These fittings have been well-proven for years in professional studio technology in terms of sound quality and long-term stability. The housing is made of aluminum and is - just like the Black Cube - mechanically damped in the lid.
