10 MHz Reference Clock Generator (Master Clock)

The Matrix Audio SC-1 is a high-precision 10 MHz reference clock generator (master clock) for demanding hi-fi and high-end audio systems. It synchronizes compatible streamers, DACs, CD players, and network switches with an extremely stable clock signal, reducing timing errors (jitter) to a minimum. The result is an audibly more precise soundstage, finer detail resolution, and more natural music reproduction.

Custom OCXO module with ultra-low phase noise

At the heart of the SC-1 is a specially developed OCXO (Oven Controlled Crystal Oscillator) using a high-quality SC-cut crystal. The temperature-controlled oven chamber keeps the crystal constant at its optimal operating temperature, ensuring exceptional frequency stability. With an extremely low jitter of only 20 femtoseconds (fs), the SC-1 provides the perfect clock base for uncompromising high-end reproduction.

Outstanding signal quality for maximum sound performance

In addition to the high-quality oscillator, the SC-1 impresses with an elaborately developed circuit design with exceptionally low phase noise of under -118 dBc at 1 Hz directly at the outputs. This allows digital audio signals to be synchronized with extreme precision, resulting in a quieter playback, improved dynamics, and an even more realistic soundstage.

Four independent 10 MHz BNC outputs

The SC-1 features four parallel 50-ohm BNC outputs that can be used to supply multiple compatible audio components simultaneously. Each output has its own buffer circuit and delivers a consistently stable clock signal, regardless of how many devices are connected.

Selectable sine or square wave output

The reference clock generator is available with either a sine or square wave output. This allows the SC-1 to be optimally adapted to the requirements of different high-end components. For most audio applications, the square wave version offers the highest synchronization accuracy.

1PPS input for automatic calibration

The SC-1 can be synchronized with an external reference source via the integrated 1PPS (One Pulse Per Second) input. The system calibrates itself automatically, compensating even for long-term aging effects of the oscillator. The current operating and warm-up status is conveniently indicated by the status LED on the front of the device.

Fully linear power supply for maximum signal purity

A high-quality linear power supply with automatic voltage adjustment feeds the individual circuit sections of the SC-1 via separate, multi-stage regulated power rails. The complete separation of the oven control and the clock circuit minimizes interference and creates ideal conditions for an absolutely clean reference signal.

Optimal addition for high-end systems

The SC-1 harmonizes perfectly with high-quality digital sources and components such as the Matrix Audio NT-1, ND-1, or SS-1 Pro, as well as many other devices with a 10 MHz clock input. It improves the signal quality of the entire digital audio chain and unlocks the full sound potential of compatible high-end components.

CBVB anti-vibration feet

The specially developed CBVB isolation feet effectively reduce mechanical oscillations and vibrations. This ensures that the sensitive oscillator operates under optimal conditions and can maintain its maximum clock accuracy over the long term.

Solid CNC aluminum housing

The precision-machined CNC aluminum housing reliably protects the sensitive clock technology from electromagnetic (EMI) and radio frequency (RFI) interference. At the same time, the low-resonance construction ensures maximum mechanical stability and integrates seamlessly into the elegant design of the Matrix Audio product family.
