MDC2 is the second generation of NAD Electronics’ innovative, future-proof MDC (“Modular Design Construction”) technology. Since 2006, owners of select NAD components have had the opportunity to (retrospectively) add new features such as Dolby Atmos®, 4K video, or BluOS™ multiroom streaming using MDC modules. Making its debut in the NAD C399 integrated amplifier, MDC2 features an entirely new architecture that allows signals to flow back and forth between the module and the NAD device. This opens up far more upgrade options for the C399 and future MDC2-enabled components.

DIRAC LIVE® ROOM CORRECTION

With the MDC2 BluOS-D module, it is possible for the first time to use Dirac Live® room correction in a NAD stereo system. First, the room acoustics are analyzed via the included calibrated microphone and the intuitive Dirac app, and the resulting correction data is uploaded to the MDC2 BluOS-D module. Dirac Live® not only corrects peaks and dips in the frequency response, but also optimizes the impulse response by learning how sounds are reflected by various surfaces in the listening room. Up to five Dirac profiles can be saved for different listening positions and room conditions. The audible improvements are significantly clearer bass reproduction as well as more accurate imaging and timbre in music and movie soundtracks.

BLUOS™ MUSIC STREAMING

The MDC2 BluOS-D module supports high-resolution music streaming of up to 24-bit/192 kHz via the BluOS™ platform. The app for controlling the system is available for iOS, macOS, Android, and Windows and provides access to hundreds of internet radio stations and more than 20 streaming services. Within the BluOS™ network, up to 63 BluOS™-enabled players can be controlled, and integration into home control systems from ELAN, Crestron, Control4, Lutron, RTI, and others is also possible.

FUTURE-PROOF AND FLEXIBLE

In addition to the latest Wi-Fi and Ethernet protocols, the MDC2 module also supports Apple AirPlay 2, Spotify Connect, and Tidal Connect. Bidirectional Bluetooth® aptX® HD enables simultaneous sending and receiving of audio data in the highest quality, and a USB port allows for the connection of a USB storage device. And, of course, local servers containing your own music collection can also be integrated into the network.

* The MDC2 BluOS-D module comes with a standard license for Dirac Live®. The Dirac Live® Full Frequency version can be optionally upgraded.
