The venerable BBC has not only produced radio and television programs throughout its long history, but has also conducted research and development in many areas. The most well-known development is certainly the legendary LS3/5A near-field monitor. The LS5/9 was originally conceived in the 1970s, with its development documentation dating back to August 1983. It was not intended to replace the long-standing LS5/8, but rather to make it more practical to use by halving the cabinet volume. The result: perhaps the best loudspeaker ever developed and built.
