Product description

ELECTRONIC SPEED CONTROL

Maintaining exact rotational speed is extremely important, as the human ear is very sensitive to momentary speed changes, known as "wow and flutter." Wow and flutter comprise, on one hand, slow, cyclical speed changes such as those that can occur with a highly warped record, where the stylus moves faster on the rising side and slower on the descending side, leading to abrupt changes in pitch. On the other hand, wow and flutter can be very rapid, small changes, such as those sometimes generated by the motor. In the C 588, these two problems are eliminated with proven and effective solutions. The special, high-precision, synchronously clocked motor is driven by a stable AC voltage. To achieve this, we first convert the AC voltage into a clean DC voltage and then electronically generate the precise AC frequency to control the synchronous motor. A specially developed belt further isolates the platter from any remaining vibrations. All rotating parts are made from an aluminum alloy machined to very tight tolerances to avoid eccentricity and vibrations in the drive system.

TONEARM AND CARTRIDGE

The C 588 features a specially developed carbon fiber tonearm shaft with a fixed metal headshell, a decoupled counterweight, and magnetic anti-skating compensation. The factory-installed Ortofon 2M Red cartridge offers excellent tracking performance and a finely nuanced sound. The C 588 uses a tonearm longer than the standard 9″ to optimize overhang and reduce tracking angle error. To perfectly align the stylus, the azimuth and vertical tracking angle can be adjusted – a calibration gauge is included with the unit.
