Product description

The Masters M28 seven-channel power amplifier embodies the ultimate in what is possible with today's amplifier technology. As one of the first devices of its kind, the M28 utilizes Purifi's Eigentakt™ amplifier technology. With 7 x 340 W (4 ohms) of continuous power and up to 560 watts of dynamic power (one channel driven into 4 ohms), the amplifier delivers breathtaking surround sound performance with enormous dynamics and virtually limitless power reserves.

EXTREMELY POWERFUL 7-CHANNEL POWER AMPLIFIER

HybridDigital™ Purifi Eigentakt™ Amplifier

Purifi is a Danish technology company where some of the leading developers in the hi-fi industry pursue the goal of identifying and eliminating the remaining weaknesses in digital amplifier technology. The current state of their work resulted in the Purifi Eigentakt™ amplifier, which NAD is the first company to manufacture under license and had previously used exclusively in the BluOS streaming amplifier M33.

Purifi Eigentakt™ technology is technically impressive, featuring extremely low intermodulation distortion, an exceptionally low total harmonic distortion across the entire frequency response and the full power bandwidth – just 0.00017% at 100 watts of output power! – as well as minimal self-noise. Since the amplifier's distortion is lower than the self-noise of today's measuring instruments, Purifi first had to develop new measurement methods to be able to verify and document these advances.

A pioneering factor in the development of Eigentakt™ technology was the realization that a memory effect occurs in the components of the amplifier's output filter. This phenomenon, known as hysteresis, is clearly responsible for the known sonic shortcomings of conventional digital amplifiers. By modifying the output stage and using the clever algorithms of Eigentakt™ technology, Purifi succeeded in reducing hysteresis effects by more than 75 dB. Another advantage of Eigentakt™ power amplifiers is that they are completely indifferent to changing loudspeaker loads. Their extremely low output impedance also results in a very high damping factor, which translates into absolutely clean and controlled bass reproduction.

Balanced Signal Transmission

In recording studios and professional sound reinforcement, balanced signal transmission has been standard practice for many years. It transmits audio signals not via a single conductor, but via two, which keeps potential interference at bay – even over long cable runs. In addition to gold-plated RCA jacks, the M28 features balanced XLR inputs, ensuring interference-free signal transmission without noise or distortion.

Enormous Power Reserves

As the most powerful NAD power amplifier ever, the M28 mobilizes an enormous dynamic power of 560 W (4 ohms, one channel driven). Even when all channels are in use simultaneously, the power amplifier still has a dynamic power of a respectable 7 x 280 watts – sufficient reserves to reproduce complex dynamic peaks in film soundtracks and music recordings without any loss of sound quality. The official continuous output power is 7 x 200 watts into 8 ohms and 7 x 340 watts into 4 ohms.

PowerDrive™ Ensures Great Dynamic Peaks

NAD's PowerDrive™ circuit ensures that an amplifier has enough power reserves available even during extreme dynamic peaks to reproduce music signals with their full dynamics. When required, the power supply provides very high current reserves for a short time, allowing almost double the output power to be mobilized for dynamic peaks.
