Product description

The unique NAD M33 V2 combines newly developed amplifier technologies and a generous variety of connections and features with the high-resolution multi-room streaming platform BluOSTM. The innovative heart of the integrated amplifier is comprised of power stages that, for the first time, combine NAD’s proven Hybrid-Digital™ circuit with the Eigentakt™ technology from the Danish digital amplifier pioneer Purifi. The result of this exclusive collaboration is amplifier stages that operate with absolute freedom from noise and distortion, delivering 2 x 200 watts of continuous power and 2 x 550 watts of dynamic power into 4 ohms.

Instead of numerous controls, the NAD M33 V2 features only a volume knob and an 18 cm color touchscreen on its 43.5-centimeter-wide front panel. All functions can be controlled easily and clearly via this screen, as – just like on a smartphone – only the buttons or sliders relevant to the currently selected function are displayed.

BLUOSTM STREAMING INTEGRATED AMPLIFIER

HybridDigital™ Purifi Eigentakt™ Amplifier

In its nearly 50-year company history, NAD has debuted numerous innovative amplifier technologies – starting with the classic 3020 with its enormous current delivery capacity, all the way to the Class D flagship M2. The NAD M33 is the world's first high-end streaming integrated amplifier to use the innovative new Purifi Eigentakt™ technology and was promptly awarded the EISA Award as the best “Smart Amplifier 2020/21”.

Purifi is a Danish technology company where some of the leading developers in the HiFi industry pursue the goal of identifying and eliminating the last remaining weaknesses in digital amplifier technology. The current state of their work has culminated in the Purifi Eigentakt™ amplifier, which NAD is the first company to manufacture under license.

Technically, the Purifi Eigentakt™ technology is impressive with its extremely low intermodulation distortion, a particularly low total harmonic distortion of only 0.005% across the entire frequency response and full power bandwidth, as well as minimal self-noise.

A groundbreaking realization for the development of Eigentakt™ technology was that a memory effect occurs in the components of the amplifier's output filter. This phenomenon, known as hysteresis, apparently leads to the known sonic drawbacks of conventional digital amplifiers. By modifying the output stage and using the clever algorithms of the Eigentakt technology, Purifi succeeded in significantly reducing hysteresis effects. Another advantage of the Eigentakt™ power stages is that they are absolutely immune to fluctuating speaker loads. Their extremely low output impedance also results in a very high damping factor, which manifests as absolutely clean and controlled bass reproduction.

BluOS™ High-Resolution Music Streaming

For NAD, BluOS™ is the most advanced network streaming and multi-room system on the market, as it enables the streaming of high-resolution audio data across multiple rooms, can be used with numerous other products, and offers a very special user experience through its unique combination of hardware and software.

To this end, BluOS™ supports the new MQA compression standard, with which even studio master recordings in 24-bit/192 kHz format can be stored in relatively small data packets. Around 20 well-known music services such as Tidal, Deezer, Qobuz, Amazon HD, Spotify, Amazon Music, Slacker, or TuneIn can be played back via BluOS™ just as easily as locally stored music libraries. Furthermore, the M33 can be integrated into the systems of numerous smart home providers via BluOS™.

The M33 is operated either via the TFT touch panel, the BluOS™ app available for Android and iOS mobile devices as well as Windows and Mac computers, the remote control supplied with the amplifier, or via Siri voice control.

Dirac Live® Room Correction

It is no secret that the acoustics of a listening room have an enormous influence on the playback quality of a HiFi system. The NAD M33 therefore features the innovative Dirac Live® room correction, whose basic function is to calibrate an audio system to the room acoustics. But in addition to adjusting specific frequencies, Dirac Live® uses advanced algorithms to analyze the impulse response of the played audio signals. This corrects possible deviations between the impulses contained in the original signal and their reproduction. The amplifier is calibrated using the included measurement microphone. After calibration, the HiFi system not only sounds more balanced, natural, and spacious, but also features better speech intelligibility and deeper, tighter bass. Five different Dirac Live profiles can be saved so that the HiFi system always sounds optimal, despite differing acoustics with open or closed curtains, at different listening positions, or with different music genres. The M33’s two independent subwoofer outputs are also compatible with Dirac’s unique “Bass Management”.

MDC – Future-Proof Modular Design

Even if the M33 is already perfectly equipped for the present and future of HiFi in its standard version with BluOS™, HDMI, Bluetooth®, and Dirac Live®, the amplifier can be retroactively expanded with additional functions. The device features two slots for MDC modules on the rear – and is thus ready, for example, for the MDC HDM-2 HDMI module as well as, in due course, for future audio formats or new smart technologies.

Apple AirPlay 2

The M33 can be integrated into an Apple network via AirPlay 2 and then directly selected as a playback device for your music stream via your Mac, iPhone, or iPad. And if you have activated Siri voice control on your Apple device, just say “Hey Siri, play the latest Paul McCartney album” or “Hey Siri, play NDR 2,” and your NAD HiFi system will immediately start playback.

Numerous Connections and Bluetooth®

The M33 has six digital and three analog inputs, including one for MM/MC phono. HDMI, USB, and LAN ports are also available. Via two sets of speaker outputs, you can connect either two pairs of speakers or one pair conventionally or via bi-wiring. And the two independent subwoofer outputs can be configured precisely for your requirements via a digital crossover. Wireless streaming from a smartphone or tablet is made possible by Apple Airplay 2* and the integrated Bluetooth® aptX™ HD module.

Phono and Headphone Connections

The M33 features a high-quality phono preamplifier that can be switched for MM and MC cartridges, the quality of which is in no way inferior to separate external phono stages. Precise RIAA equalization, an infrasonic filter that eliminates extremely low interference frequencies, and a huge overload margin ensure optimal sound quality.

As a headphone enthusiast, you will be thrilled by the sound of the discrete headphone amplifier, which, thanks to its high voltage and low output impedance, can drive even planar-magnetic and high-impedance studio headphones. Wireless headphones can also be controlled via the integrated Qualcomm Bluetooth® aptX™ HD module.

Extensive Smart Home Integration

With the help of BluOS™, numerous functions of the amplifier can be operated via Apple AirPlay 2 with Siri voice control. Operation via other platforms is in preparation.

The M33 can be fully integrated into many of today’s leading smart home systems from companies like Apple, Crestron, Control4, Lutron, KNX, and many others. This means that, along with your lighting, blinds, air conditioning, and security, you can control your BluOS™ multi-room music system via a common interface. All smart home integrations are certified for reliable operation. The customized BluOS™ apps for iOS and Android tablets and smartphones, as well as desktop control for Windows and MacOS, are available free of charge and are updated regularly.

High-Quality Aluminum Housing

The housing, made entirely of aluminum, looks extremely elegant while being simultaneously stable and robust. Torsion-resistant panels with magnetic iso-point feet form an optimal base for the complex interior construction with its multi-layer circuit boards. The M33 represents a modern, ground-up redesign of the traditional stereo amplifier with forward-looking features and enormous power reserves.
