Product description
The Masters M66 BluOS Streaming DAC-Preamplifier is not only the most advanced preamplifier NAD has ever offered, it represents an entirely new class of hi-fi separate components. In addition to a plethora of inputs, including MM/MC phono and HDMI eARC, the M66 incorporates an audiophile DAC and a high-resolution multi-room music streamer.
Along with full-bandwidth Dirac Live Room Correction, the M66 features Dirac Live Bass Control, which allows each connected subwoofer to be independently controlled to ensure consistent performance throughout the listening room. By combining Dirac Live Room Correction and Dirac Live Bass Control, the M66 delivers more accurate in-room performance than any other two-channel component ever offered.
With its elegant aluminum chassis, smooth digital volume control, and vibrant 7″ touchscreen, the M66 exudes class and quality. Visually, sonically, and technologically, it is the ideal match for NAD's award-winning Masters M23 power amplifier. Naturally, the Masters M66 BluOS Streaming DAC-Preamplifier can be paired with any high-performance amplifier.
Music everywhere
The M66 is a high-resolution network streamer based on the renowned BluOS multi-room music management system, providing access to more than 20 streaming services, including several that offer lossless and high-resolution audio. Using the intuitive BluOS app on a smart device or PC, the listener can stream music from their favorite service, personal music library, and thousands of internet radio stations at resolutions up to 24-bit/192 kHz. Like all BluOS-enabled components, the M66 features full MQA decoding and rendering capabilities.
With BluOS, you can listen to music in a single room or share music across your home network with up to 63 additional BluOS-enabled components from NAD and other hardware partners. The M66 integrates easily into home control systems from Control4, Crestron, ELAN, RTI, URC, and others. Listeners can also control playback via voice using Amazon Alexa or Apple Siri.
Perfect response
Integrated into the M66 are Dirac Live Room Correction and Dirac Live Bass Control. Connect the supplied calibrated microphone to the M66's USB port, then launch the Dirac Live app on a smart device or PC. The app guides you through the calibration process and then generates correction filters that compensate for acoustic problems such as standing waves and unwanted reflections. You will benefit from tighter bass, improved tonal accuracy, significantly better clarity, and focused imaging.
As the first stereo component to do so, the M66 features four balanced and four unbalanced subwoofer outputs and is equipped with Dirac Live Bass Control, which allows for independent calibration of multiple subwoofers. Dirac Live Bass Control optimizes subwoofer output in both the frequency and time domains, ensuring a seamless blend between subwoofer(s) and main speakers and providing even, consistent bass response across the entire listening area, not just in the sweet spot.
Ultimate performance
At the heart of the M66's digital section are ESS Technology's Sabre DAC and ADC chips. These audiophile designs are known for their exceptionally wide dynamic range, ultra-low noise and distortion, and outstanding time-domain performance.
The M66 is the first component to feature NAD's innovative Dynamic Digital Headroom (DDH) circuitry. When enabled in the BluOS app, DDH eliminates digital inter-sample peak clipping distortion that can occur during digital-to-analog conversion with sudden high-frequency transients. The benefits are most noticeable with percussion instruments: rimshots are punchier but less shrill; cymbals sound more realistic and less splashy.
For volume control, the M66 uses a high-precision resistor ladder circuit. Compared to traditional analog circuits, the M66's digital volume control significantly reduces thermal and associated distortion, maximizes dynamic range, and provides more precise left-right channel matching across the entire volume range.
By default, analog signals are converted to digital signals so that features like Dirac Live Room Correction and Bass Control are available for all sources. However, the M66 has a selectable Analog Direct mode that bypasses all digital processing, as well as separate signal paths for analog and digital sources. Internally, the analog and digital sections are physically separated and shielded by their own power supplies, so analog signals are not affected by digital interference when Analog Direct mode is activated. Using the BluOS app, you can even disable the M66’s Wi-Fi and Bluetooth circuitry to prevent RF interference.
Connect everything
With its numerous analog and digital inputs, the M66 can accommodate all your source components. Vinyl enthusiasts will appreciate the M66's ultra-quiet MM/MC phono stage, which features precise RIAA equalization, high overload margins, and innovative circuitry that suppresses infrasonic noise, which is always present in vinyl playback, without affecting bass response. For TV and movie playback, there is an HDMI eARC port for connecting to an HDTV. Other options include two coaxial and two optical S/PDIF inputs, a balanced AES/EBU digital input, two pairs of RCA line-level analog inputs, and a pair of balanced XLR inputs.
In addition to unbalanced RCA and balanced XLR outputs for connection to a power amplifier, the M66 features four unbalanced RCA and four balanced XLR subwoofer outputs. The M66’s dedicated headphone amplifier has a very low output impedance and very high maximum output voltage, allowing it to drive even demanding high-impedance studio monitor headphones. The M66 also features Bluetooth connectivity with support for the AAC, LDAC, and aptX HD codecs.
Forward to the future
The Masters M66 represents the pinnacle of what is technically achievable today in a two-channel preamplifier and will maintain its technological lead for decades to come. On the rear panel are two expansion slots that support MDC2, the latest generation of NAD's future-proof Modular Design Construction technology. As technologies evolve, M66 owners can add new features by simply inserting an MDC2 module into one of the slots.
Everything about the NAD Masters M66 BluOS Streaming DAC-Preamplifier is intended to inspire pride of ownership: the beautiful 7-inch touchscreen, the elegant aluminum chassis, and the silky-smooth digital volume control. With its cutting-edge technology, unparalleled versatility, and outstanding build quality, the Masters M66 is truly a masterpiece of sound.
