Product description

The NAD T 778 is the perfect centerpiece for a high-performance home theater or multi-room system. It understands the latest audio and video technologies and decodes surround soundtracks with up to 7.2.4 channels – including the lossless formats Dolby® TrueHD, DTS® Master Audio, and Dolby Atmos®. To ensure optimal image quality, 4K UltraHD signals (60p/4:4:4) are passed through without loss. Via the integrated BluOS™ streaming platform, you can play your own audio files as well as internet radio stations and music streaming services in high-resolution quality within a multi-room network. Operation is extremely convenient via the touchscreen integrated into the front panel, a smartphone, a tablet, or a PC. The nine amplifiers integrated into the T 778 each mobilize a continuous output of 85 watts and, when required, an impulse power of up to 300 watts at 4 Ω. And to ensure the AV receiver sounds optimal in any living room or home theater, it can be calibrated to the acoustics of the listening room using the Dirac Live® system.

BLUOS™-ENABLED 4K ULTRA HD AV RECEIVER

Comprehensive Surround Sound Options

The T 778 represents the most comprehensive and best options currently available for multi-channel surround sound playback in the NAD portfolio. It supports HDMI video switching and decodes surround soundtracks into up to 7.2.4 channels. Its state-of-the-art DSPs handle high-resolution, lossless surround formats such as Dolby® TrueHD or DTS-Master Audio, now also including object-based 3D audio like Dolby Atmos®, thereby enabling a particularly immersive home theater experience. The digital inputs of the T 778 automatically detect the surround mode of the source material and activate the corresponding decoders. The conversion of the digital bitstream is handled by high-resolution and extremely linear D/A converters.

Efficient Distortion-Free Amplifier Technology

The nine output stages of the T 778 operate using NAD’s Hybrid Digital technology. This amplifier circuit is characterized not only by an extraordinarily high level of efficiency and extremely low distortion, but is also capable of delivering very high peak currents for loud music transients and for an impressively realistic reproduction of action scenes. The absolute noise-free silence during pauses and the explosive dynamics that characterize this amplifier technology lend your music and movies an extraordinary level of drama and tension.

4K UHD Video

With the latest and most advanced 4K chipsets, the T 778 can process video sources in standard and HD resolution, including 4K Ultra HD with full compatibility for the latest 4:4:4 Pure Color 4K Ultra HD specification. It also offers full HDCP 2.2 compatibility, so you can enjoy 4K videos in the highest quality with digital copyright protection.

Dolby Atmos®

The digital sound format Dolby Atmos® provides an extraordinary listening experience in your home theater. You can create a 7.2.4 system with the integrated amplifiers and connections of the T 778. Regardless of the number of speakers, the T 778 generates captivating sound reproduction all around the listeners, allowing for precise localization of audio effects and reproducing the full realism of Dolby Atmos® soundtracks.

Dirac Live® – Software for Room Acoustics and Impulse Response Correction

The DIRAC Live room correction enables a remarkable improvement in sound quality through electronic adjustment of the frequency response and impulse response. After calibration, DIRAC Live ensures an extremely clear, natural, and accurate sound image.

BluOS™ – Multi-Room Streaming in HD Quality

The T 778 features BluOS™, the high-resolution multi-room audio platform shared with NAD’s sister brand Bluesound – a unique feature among high-end AV receivers. When the T 778 is connected to the internet via Ethernet or Wi-Fi, it has access to thousands of internet radio stations and numerous high-quality music streaming services such as Spotify, Tidal, Deezer, and many others. In combination with MQA Studio masters, the T 778 also offers the highest audio resolution currently available.

By the way, BluOS™ can also be integrated into several innovative home automation systems, so that in addition to the intelligent control of lighting, heating, and other household technology, the operation of a BluOS™ multi-room system is possible via the Smart Home panel. The driver software for systems from manufacturers such as Control4, Crestron, ELAN, iPort, Lutron, Push, RTI, and URC is available for download in the sub-navigation above under the "Smarthome Integration" tab.

Apple AirPlay 2

The T 778 can be integrated into an Apple network via AirPlay 2 and then selected directly as a playback device for your music stream via your Mac, iPhone, or iPad. And if you have Siri voice control activated on your Apple device, a simple “Hey Siri, play the latest Paul McCartney album” or “Hey Siri, play NDR 2” is enough, and your NAD home theater system will start playback immediately.

MQA – Music in Studio Master Quality

MQA is not a new file format, but an innovative way to package large music files with complex encoding, efficient compression technology, and a digital signature so that even original studio master recordings in 24-bit/192 kHz format can be packaged into relatively small data packets and provided online. For this purpose, the music data is packed into any container such as ALAC, FLAC, or WAV. During playback via a decoder integrated into BluOS™, the player unpacks the file completely and brings it back to its original format, the studio master file, without any loss.

Future-proof MDC Modular System

MDC, the abbreviation for Modular Design Construction, is NAD's measure against Hi-Fi systems becoming obsolete too quickly. In particular, technologies for A/V devices have been developing ever faster in recent decades. Therefore, home theater fans who want to use new file formats, high-speed HDMI connections with higher bandwidth, or additional height channels for surround playback like Dolby Atmos® are forced to replace their A/V receiver or amplifier regularly. NAD's MDC principle provides for integrating all age-sensitive technologies on a high-quality plug-in card that can be quickly and easily replaced with a newer version by a qualified technician. In addition, the MDC modules allow for individual configuration of the corresponding NAD amplifiers.

*Note: The T 778 includes a license for Dirac Live Light with the option to upgrade to the full version. Firmware version 2.12.9 or higher is required to activate Dirac Live. Further information on updating your device's firmware can be found here.
