The Linear PH1 is a phono stage specifically designed for low-output moving coil cartridges.

The most unusual feature of the Linear PH1 phono stage is its amplification method. Conventional step-up transformers or low-noise amplifiers are designed to accurately amplify the very low output voltage of moving coil cartridges. In contrast, this unit extracts the maximum current signal from the cartridge and then converts this current into a voltage high enough to drive an RIAA phono stage.

All cartridges exhibit magnetic distortion caused by nonlinear properties within the magnetic materials of the cartridge components. These distortions have a negative impact on sound quality.

The current input design ensures optimal matching to the cartridge system at all times. By using current amplification and decoupling the current signal, the magnetic distortion of the cartridge is significantly reduced. In other words, linearity over the reproducible frequency range of the cartridge is improved. This enables the LPH1 to amplify the original cutting signal on records as precisely as possible.

The sonic advantages of the LPH1 over conventional phono stages are immediately apparent. Most impressive are the neutral soundstage, the rich mid-bass, and the smooth highs. The overall sound quality offers improved transparency and resolution.
