Linear PH1 is a phono preamplifier specifically developed for low-output moving-coil cartridges.

The most unusual feature of the Linear PH1 phono stage is its amplification method. Conventional step-up transformers or low-noise amplifiers are designed to precisely amplify the very low output voltage of moving-coil cartridges. In contrast, the Linear PH1 extracts the maximum current signal from the cartridge and then converts this current into a voltage high enough to drive an RIAA phono stage.

All cartridges suffer from magnetic distortion, which is caused by non-linear characteristics of the magnetic materials within the cartridge components. These distortions have a negative impact on sound quality.

The current input design always ensures optimal matching with the cartridge system. By using current amplification and extracting the current signal, the magnetic distortion of the cartridge is significantly reduced. In other words, linearity is improved across the cartridge's reproducible frequency range. This enables the LPH1 to amplify the original cutting signal on records as precisely as possible.

The sonic advantages of the LPH1 over conventional phono preamplifiers are immediately apparent. The neutral soundstage, rich mid-bass, and smooth highs are extremely impressive. The overall sound quality offers improved transparency and resolution.
