The exclusive Ortofon 2M Black LVB 250: The virtuoso among MM cartridges

To mark the 250th birthday of musical genius Ludwig van Beethoven, Ortofon is releasing the exclusive Ortofon 2M Black LVB 250 model. The "old" flagship of the 2M series, the 2M Black, is already widely recognized as one of the best MM cartridges on the market. "Open, fast, detailed, lively, full of vitality and sonically spectacular," says Marc Mickelson of "The Audio Beat," for example. But that doesn't mean Ortofon couldn't make the 2M Black even better...

What makes the 2M Black LVB 250 even better

The Ortofon 2M Black LVB 250 is, of course, largely based on the 2M Black, but the detailed solutions in the 2M Black LVB 250 go a step further. For the 2M Black LVB 250, Ortofon mounts the "nude" Shibata diamond from the 2M Black onto a boron cantilever – the exact combination that also made the Ortofon MC Cadenza Black a celebrated shooting star.

The slim, highly polished profile of the Nude Shibata stylus nestles closely and extensively against the groove walls, ensuring remarkably detailed reproduction across the entire frequency spectrum, including the very highest frequencies. The extremely stiff and lightweight boron cantilever ensures remarkable transparency, speed, and responsiveness. MC territory? Easy!

For an optimal compromise between compliance and damping, Ortofon has developed a new rubber for the suspension system, the formula for which is based on a highly efficient multi-wall carbon nanotube (MWCNT) filler. Furthermore, the new rubber compound, which is applied in a rubber polymer matrix rather than in powder form, makes production cleaner and more energy-efficient – in a word: more environmentally friendly.

Performance and compatibility

With an optimal weight of 7.2g and a stylus compliance of 22μm/mN, the Ortofon 2M Black LVB 250 is easily compatible with virtually all modern high-end tonearms.

Note: With an Ortofon Stylus 2M LVB 250 replacement stylus, you can not only replace the stylus on this cartridge but also easily upgrade your existing Ortofon 2M Bronze or Ortofon 2M Black to a full-fledged Ortofon 2M Black LVB 250!
