An external phono preamplifier is indispensable if the existing amplifier does not have a connection for a turntable, or if the built-in phono preamplifier does not meet the quality standards of the music lover. Connection is then made to a line-level input on the amplifier. Every cartridge performs best in an optimal electrical environment. It is therefore advantageous if a phono preamplifier can be sensitively adjusted in terms of load capacitance, load resistance, and gain to the requirements of the cartridge.

The device features a wide range of setting options for the load capacitance of MM, Moving Iron, and high-output MC cartridges, as well as the load resistance for low-output MC cartridges. The load resistance for low-output MC cartridges can be continuously adjusted while listening using the rotary control on the front of the unit. The gain is adjustable in three stages. The gain setting is not linked to an operating mode. All settings can be used for both MM and MC operating modes.

In the golden era of analog technology, many records were not cut according to the RIAA curve that is standard today. Often, the Decca curve selectable on the device is a better fit. Feel free to experiment with both equalization curves – you cannot do anything wrong. Your ears decide, and whatever you like best is "right".

Unusual for phono preamplifiers in this price range, the device features balanced inputs and outputs, which minimizes interference in the signal. Another advantage – compared to RCA outputs – is the increased signal-to-noise ratio due to double the output voltage at the XLR outputs.
