The Reed Audio 5A is a very high-quality high-end tonearm from the Lithuanian manufacturer Reed Audio. Its so-called "pivoted tangential" construction is particularly notable: the arm moves like a normal pivoted tonearm, yet keeps the tracking angle almost tangential to the groove. This is intended to significantly reduce distortion – without the drawbacks of classic linear trackers using air bearings or motor control.

Key features:

• extremely low tracking error (approx. ±0.07°)
• no anti-skating necessary
• very precise bearing with sapphire/tungsten carbide bearings
• adjustable VTA and azimuth
• effective mass approximately 10–16 g depending on the arm wand
• compatible with many high-end MC cartridges

In terms of sound, the 5A is often described as:

• very spatial and precise
• extremely clean in the highs
• powerful, controlled bass
• very natural dynamics and timing
