The Reed 5T is an exceptional high-end tonearm from the Lithuanian manufacturer Reed Audio. It combines the sonic benefits of a classic pivoted tonearm with the precision of a tangential linear tracker. It is based on a special geometric construction following the Thales principle, in which the cartridge tracks the record groove at an angle nearly identical to that of the cutting head. This results in an extreme reduction of tracking error and distortion.

Unlike the purely mechanical Reed 5A, the 5T also utilizes an optical sensor system and a linear motor. A laser continuously monitors the position of the tonearm and corrects its movement almost contact-free. As a result, tracking remains extremely precise even during challenging passages, without the need for an air bearing or an external compressor.

The tonearm features high-precision sapphire and tungsten carbide bearings, finely adjustable VTA and azimuth settings, and interchangeable arm tubes made from various woods such as cocobolo, ebony, or wenge. The effective mass can be adjusted depending on the configuration, allowing the 5T to be combined with many high-quality MC cartridges.

In terms of sound, the Reed 5T is frequently praised for its exceptional spaciousness, immense quietness, precise channel separation, and very natural dynamics. Many users describe it as extremely transparent yet musical, with highly stable imaging and very low distortion, even in the inner grooves.
