Product description

For discerning music lovers, the IE 900 offers an unparalleled listening experience. Every aspect of these exceptional earphones bears witness to our passion for detail – from the optimized 7 mm transducer and innovative X3R resonator chamber technology to the precision-milled aluminum housing.

The IE 900 reveals what every hi-fi enthusiast ultimately cares about: the most subtle details and the full sonic splendor of high-quality music recordings.
The IE 900 exceeds everything music lovers usually expect from earphones. It impresses with its incredibly detailed reproduction and sonic agility. With the IE 900, we have created a true sound microscope that combines art and craft at the highest level. It reveals what every hi-fi enthusiast ultimately cares about: the most subtle details and the full sonic splendor of high-quality music recordings. Sennheiser engineers have used all their expertise to further optimize our well-known 7 mm transducers. Our new X3R development (a system of three resonator chambers milled into the housing) and an acoustic vortex channel bring the full potential of our TrueResponse wideband transducers to bear.

A sound microscope for passionate listeners

The clear and balanced sound of our German-made 7 mm TrueResponse transducers is characterized by uncompromising sonic fidelity in music reproduction.
For music, as for its recording and reproduction, the same applies: attention to detail counts at every moment. What was created in the studio or concert hall should not be ruined by inferior playback technology. The clear and balanced sound of our German-made 7 mm TrueResponse transducers is characterized by uncompromising sonic fidelity in music reproduction. They reveal new nuances even in tracks you thought you knew by heart. The driver diaphragms are made of an innovative material mix. Their precise impulse response creates the foundation for unadulterated music reproduction. Every single instrument in a recording becomes audible; its unmistakable sonic signature emerges. And not only does the skill of the musicians gain contour in the focus of the IE 900: the structure and acoustic nature of the room in which they played also emerge anew before the listener's ears. Instead of remaining on the surface, they can experience musically and sonically complex passages in their full depth.

Only a single high-quality dynamic transducer.
The superior sonic purity of the IE 900 is the result of a coherent concept with only one goal: unadulterated, true-to-original reproduction. When we developed the IE 900, we consciously decided to use only a single high-quality dynamic transducer. This ruled out all known problems of multi-driver systems (especially phase incoherence and the associated distortion caused by overlapping frequency bands) from the outset. X3R technology is integrated into the housing of each earphone – a system of three so-called Helmholtz resonator chambers and an acoustic vortex channel. The chambers prevent unwanted resonance peaks, which in simpler solutions obscure the view of the sound image of the original recording. We chose aluminum as the housing material here because it allows for the necessary precision of workmanship for the three-chamber absorber. Audiophile recordings are works of art, and as with valuable paintings, it would be unforgivable to damage them through careless handling. The IE 900 reveals the potential of every recording. If it is a masterpiece... you will hear it.

Features

The new benchmark for portable audio devices

Highest precision and craftsmanship

All elements were developed in Germany and manufactured with precision at our Sennheiser production facility in Ireland.

X3R technology: TrueResponse transducers combined with three Helmholtz resonator chambers and an acoustic vortex

Precision-milled and anodized aluminum housing

Total harmonic distortion: 0.05% (1 kHz, 94 dB)

Impedance: 18 ohms

Hand-assembled at Sennheiser headquarters

Gold-plated Fidelity (+) MMCX connectors for improved stability

Various para-aramid-reinforced cables (2.5 mm, 3.5 mm, 4.4 mm)

Adjustable ear hooks and a selection of ear adapters including memory foam

Frequency response: 5 Hz – 48,000 Hz

A tidy sound image in which the trained ear can find its way without being disturbed by overlays requires a clean separation of low and mid frequencies.
For this critical frequency range, we have set clear boundaries using a so-called rear volume. The rear volume defines the airflow behind the transducer, which is used to achieve the desired tuning. A complex structure – the vortex – is milled into the acoustic passage of the earphone, in which the acoustic energy is swirled. This creates a natural, fatigue-free listening experience without unpleasant resonances. The IE 900 is manufactured entirely at our renowned facility in Ireland, which is known worldwide for the outstanding quality of the products produced there.

The material of choice here is aluminum – because it can be precisely machined to create a home for the electroacoustic components that is as beautiful as it is durable. A five-axis milling machine cuts each individual housing from a block of aluminum with the highest precision – almost like a futuristic sculpture. The anodized housing resists wear and corrosion, even with daily music enjoyment in an active life. This is what a music lover expects from a loyal companion. The transducers of every IE 900 are paired during automated production with the goal of the lowest possible deviation. The result is a clearly defined stereo stage without dips or gaps. Thus, from the enthusiasm for perfection, profound knowledge of acoustic relationships, and a manufacturing process with the smallest possible production tolerances, a whole of the highest level is created.

Professional musicians rely on high-quality, custom-fit "personal monitoring systems." We were inspired by their comfort and secure fit when designing the IE 900.
No ambient noise should interfere with the music experience. With the IE 900, you hear only music; just as it was created – distractions are left outside. It fulfills the desire for hi-fi reference sound without "ifs" or "buts"; at the desk, on a walk through the woods, or on the train. Professional musicians rely on high-quality, custom-fit "personal monitoring systems." We were inspired by their comfort and secure fit when designing the IE 900. Because the privilege of enjoying perfect live sound should not be reserved for musicians on the big stages of the world. What is indispensable there for a great performance should always be part of the music enjoyment experience: the highest level of detail. Included with the IE 900 are silicone ear adapter sets as well as three viscoelastic foam ear adapter sets in three different sizes. They are able to adapt to the anatomy of every ear.

In addition to perfect sound, audiophile music lovers expect mechanical durability above all else. We also meet this expectation.
This is achieved, among other things, by the gold-plated Fidelity+ MMCX connectors, which ensure maximum contact reliability. The socket, recessed into a 4.8 mm wide cavity, provides strain relief for the connectors. And the para-aramid-reinforced cables withstand thousands of bend cycles – which is reassuring if you actually take the IE 900 off every now and then and stow it in the supplied transport case, which features an individual serial number. The 3.5 mm stereo jack plug allows connection to a virtually unlimited number of digital audio players, headphone amplifiers, laptops, and audio interfaces. In addition, each IE 900 comes with a balanced 2.5 mm and 4.4 mm cable, which allow for direct connection to high-quality hi-fi components with balanced outputs.
