The Model 20 MK2 has received a new drive unit consisting of a 24V synchronous motor, an external control unit, and an external power supply. The Model 20 MK2 is technologically based on the Model 30 reference turntable, but is slightly smaller in its overall dimensions. In terms of technology and sound, however, it is very close to the former reference. The tonearm is an SME Series V, which has been considered the benchmark for tonearms for many years.

The chassis is designed as an elaborate sub-chassis: the tonearm, platter, and bearing are suspended from 4 columns and decoupled via 40 silicone O-rings. Excess energy is absorbed by a centrally installed, fluid-filled damping element. This sophisticated construction of mass and sub-chassis is sonically clearly superior to pure mass-loaded designs.

The platter is an acoustically inert sandwich construction with a special mat bonded to the platter that is precision-turned and provided with a special micro-groove profile to ensure the best possible contact with the record. This profiling has proven to be sonically clearly superior to a smooth surface.

As is standard with SME turntables, the record is clamped to the platter using a record clamp; in this way, optimal contact with the platter is established and manufacturing-related unevenness of the record is largely leveled out.

The platter bearing is an ultra-solid and durable phosphor-bronze construction, manufactured to the tightest tolerances.
