The SME Model 15 MK2 is inspired by the SME 30 and SME 20 models, incorporating many of their technical details and qualities within a significantly smaller footprint. The stable sub-chassis, milled from solid aluminum, is suspended from three pillars, each featuring 10 O-rings, and is controlled by a central damping element to absorb excess energy. The sturdy aluminum chassis stands securely on three feet and can be leveled for height.

The new SME 60 reference turntable serves as the technological showcase for the improved drive systems of the Model 15 MK2. Consequently, the technological insights gained from the development of the Model 60's motor, motor controller, and external power supply have been incorporated into the Model 15 MK2. The new drive features a custom-developed 24V synchronous motor controlled by a DSP-supported control unit, ensuring incredibly precise operation. The DSP delivers power to the motor in two perfect sine waves, allowing it to run exceptionally quietly and accurately. The motor and control unit are perfectly matched. The speed can be fine-tuned in 0.01% increments.

The Model 15 MK2 bearing is a robust and long-lasting precision bearing from SME, with a phosphor-bronze bearing block and a 19mm diameter chrome tool steel spindle, resulting in a platter bearing machined to an accuracy of 3/1000mm.

The platter is a sandwich construction with high inertial mass and outstanding damping. The platter mat is made of a micro-profiled aerospace-grade material. The record clamp ensures perfect coupling.

An SME 309 tonearm with high-quality "Crystal Cable" internal wiring made of pure monocrystalline silver comes as standard; alternatively, other SME tonearms such as the M2-9R, SME IV*, or SME V* can be factory-fitted.
