Along with the release of the Reference Celebration 40, Sumiko brings you the Blue Point No. 3—another tribute to 40 years of cartridge development. Sumiko looked and listened closely to the resonant characteristics of the Blue Point No. 2 and identified room for refinement. Knowing that resonance has a greater impact than many listeners realize, they sought to redesign the resonance of the housing around the generator... and we believe they hit the mark.

The sonic presentation of the Blue Point No. 3 is reminiscent of classic Shure and Stanton MMs, known for their smoothness. With the proven MC generator system, this smoothness is balanced by the subtlety and nuance you expect from a Sumiko MC. First and foremost—and if ever the word was appropriate—the Blue Point No. 3 builds its soundstage from the bottom up, with a wonderfully supple low-frequency reproduction. Bass lovers will get their money's worth here. Lush and warm, yet defined and structured—the naturalness of the bass range will draw you in immediately. But that is not all. You can expect the same richness of tone and fullness in the mids, which remain transparent, along with a high-frequency range that is fine yet airy.

Having developed such a refinement of their classic design, it was only natural for Sumiko to introduce a low-output variant. As much as Sumiko stands behind the Blue Point No. 3 High, the Blue Point No. 3 Low is a game-changer. Owners of MC phono stages can experience the aforementioned sonic qualities, but with the depth and imaging typical of a low-output design, and much more.
