Black pearl for black gold

At the top of the classic Oyster models sits the Pearl, which has been making listeners' hearts beat faster for decades. The Pearl is compatible with most tonearms on the market and fits perfectly with any MM phono preamplifier. It serves as a reminder that you don't need to break the bank to achieve the highest level of sound quality. Dynamic yet smooth and incredibly musical, it is a balanced cartridge with enticing highs, punchy mids, and deep, round bass. The Pearl introduces our elliptical stylus, which improves detail retrieval, provides more brilliance, and enhances the stereo imaging of its sibling, the Black Pearl.

Handcrafted in Japan

From Oyster to Reference, every Sumiko cartridge is crafted by hand in Yokohama, Japan—near the waters where the oysters that give the line its name reside. Sumiko selects the finest materials by ear, which together yield a performance that has enlightened generations of listeners. Each design is thoroughly tested until perfected. Production is then carried out by world-class artisans with a shared eye for precision and quality.

Suitable for light to medium-weight tonearms. Also suitable for headshells that only allow the cartridge to be screwed on from below, as found on older Thorens turntables, for example.
