The singing cartridge

The Sumiko Songbird is particularly well-suited for vocals and acoustic instruments. It delivers the sweetest highs over a robust, rich, yet clear lower-midrange. Like its big sibling Starling, Songbird allows soundscapes to float in a highly controlled manner. With the Songbird, you find yourself in the midst of naturally positioned instruments within the soundstage, very close to the intimate nuances of the musical material. If you have an MM phono stage, it is quite possible that the Songbird High is the cartridge you have always dreamed of.

We are immensely excited about these latest additions to our Reference Open-Body MC series. Our new favorites - Songbird & Starling - are a strong refinement of our tried-and-tested Blackbird & BPS EVO III designs. Our new generator is securely anchored in a highly rigid, resonance-optimized housing block and can unleash its magic free of unwanted internal resonance with the highest level of control. The generator unit is flexible and robust, offering the highest possible sonic fidelity in a perfect balance of clarity and drama. The result is industry-leading, holographic imaging with an irresistibly 'real' feel.

The Sumiko Songbird Low is suitable for medium to heavy tonearms.
