The star of the Sumiko ensemble

If a picture is worth a thousand words, Starling poses the question of what a sonic image might be worth. Music’s unique ability to reach us with an intensity that extends far beyond what we can hear is evident in the very existence of our hobby. One could say that it is feelings that we are chasing, and when they are evoked by the most compelling reproduction of your favorite recordings, those feelings can be all the more profound. A sonic experience can therefore be priceless, and we have designed the Starling system to make this experience a reality in your system. In addition to the resonance-optimized cartridge housing and generator we have carried over from the Songbird, the Starling features a rigid boron cantilever equipped with an ultra-low-mass Microridge stylus. Microridge is a diamond cut that is prized worldwide for its consistency while providing richness and clarity. Rarely has this famous tip achieved such agility in the groove—certainly not at the Starling's price point. What you will experience are magnificently floating soundstages that place you exactly where you want to be—third row, center.

We are immensely excited about these latest additions to our Reference Open-Body MC line. Our newest darlings—Songbird & Starling—are a powerful refinement of our proven Blackbird & BPS EVO III designs. Our new generator is securely anchored in a highly rigid, resonance-optimized body block, allowing it to weave its magic free from unwanted internal resonance with the utmost control. The generator unit is flexible and robust, offering the highest possible fidelity in a perfect balance of clarity and drama. The result is industry-leading, holographic imaging with an irresistibly 'real' feel. The Starling delivers a level of honesty and sophistication that we could not be prouder of, and we look forward to you hearing it for yourself.

The Sumiko Starling is suitable for medium to heavy tonearms.
