Replacement stylus for the Sumiko Rainier

Upgrade for MM cartridges

You can upgrade your Sumiko MM cartridge by simply swapping the stylus assembly. Important: all upgradeable cartridges operate with the same tracking force – therefore, no adjustments are necessary after upgrading the stylus.

Since the Black Pearl and Pearl are identical except for the stylus, a Pearl stylus upgrades the Black Pearl to a Pearl. For the models from Rainier to Amethyst, the generators also differ. The advantages of the higher-quality stylus assembly: lighter stylus cantilevers, a nude-mounted diamond, a better diamond cut, or a better polish of the diamond – whether aligned with or against the structure of the diamond crystal lattice – significantly improve sound quality.

Upgrade steps for stereo styli

Rainier – simplest cantilever. Elliptical diamond (r/R 8 x 18µm)

Olympia – better selected diamond stylus. Elliptical diamond (r/R 8 x 18µm)

Moonstone – lighter aluminum cantilever. Elliptical diamond (r/R 8 x 18µm)

Wellfleet – nude diamond with elliptical cut (r/R 8 x 18µm)

Amethyst – nude Line-Contact cut (r/R 5 x 20µm).

Optional 78rpm stylus for MM cartridges:

For the Rainier through Amethyst models, there is an RS78 stylus with a spherical (R 76µm) stylus cut for shellac records.
