Product description

The foundation for perfect sound

Any device can only sound as good as the base it stands on. Eventually, everyone who is serious about achieving the best possible sound comes to this realization. Helmut Thiele has explored this subject like few others, and has conceived, developed, and built his "ultima ratio"—the ultimate platform for hi-fi equipment, without compromise. The Thiele ADB01 is an actively regulated absorber base that improves the sound of any device to an astonishing degree. In his TA0 tonearm and TT01 turntable, Helmut Thiele implemented many measures to suppress vibrations and resonances. During his research into these physical phenomena, he realized that the surface on which a turntable is placed also has a major influence on its resonance behavior and, consequently, on the music signal. In collaboration with the company Seismion in Hanover, he developed the active ADB01 base.

Tailor-made for the TT01

Especially in terms of design, as the dimensions, proportions, colors, and finishes match perfectly. The recessed spike pads ensure the TT01 is perfectly positioned and optimally coupled to the ADB01’s housing. However, all other devices are also perfectly accommodated on the ADB01!

Technology

The construction of the ADB01’s housing is the result of the collaboration with Seismion. Through the use of special wood materials and extremely thick wall sections, the supporting platform is already optimally protected against vibrations. The base plate itself features a double-layered design. Placing a device on the base eliminates both external disturbances, such as footfall or vibrations from the building, and the structure-borne noise from a turntable motor. As a result, the music signal output to the phono preamplifier is extremely clarified.

The active technology from Seismion isolates the placed device much better than passive solutions due to its low resonance frequency. Especially in the critical frequency range of 1–10 Hz, the isolation is 7 times better than with passive solutions. In the range of air spring resonances at 2.5 Hz, the active isolators are even 37 times better! The differences in decay time are equally impressive. This is the time the system requires to return to its resting position after being excited. This highlights a major disadvantage of passive vibration isolators such as air springs: since the isolation relies on a weak transmission path for floor excitation through the spring and damper, less stability is inevitably present during direct excitation. Consequently, an air spring system vibrates for a very long time. Due to the weak damping, the system requires numerous cycles to stabilize. Even after 5 seconds, significant vibrations are still present. In comparison, the active isolators exhibit excellent stability characteristics here. This is because the isolation is not based on a very soft and weakly damped mounting, but on sky-hook damping. During direct excitation, the highly effective sky-hook damper counteracts the vibrations and brings the system to a standstill almost immediately.

Benefits

You will immediately notice the enormous increase in isolation and stabilization: this allows for high-precision tracking by the cartridge and a quieter environment for capacitors and transformers, even in environments with high levels of interference. The result: the best possible sound!
