The sound of a record player depends to a high degree on how the record is coupled to the platter. Resonances and vibrations, for example those coming from the platter bearing or the motor, can be filtered out particularly effectively at this point and with relatively little financial effort. However, this does not mean that the development of a turntable mat also involves little effort. On the contrary: it requires many tests with materials and their combinations to achieve the optimum. Leather, glass, cork – they all have certain "sound signatures". With the RM01, Thiele has now created a mix of materials that features optimal damping properties and does not add its own fingerprint to the sound. This is why the RM01 is also included with the Thiele TT01.

Inside the Thiele RM01 is a disc made of solid plastic. Thiele bonds it with an outer disc made of foamed plastic. The different density of the plastics on the inside and on the top and bottom sides absorbs resonances over a wide frequency range and thus steadies the record placed on top.
