Thiele TT01 – obsessively detail-oriented

The TT01 is a brilliant turntable. And it features a tonearm that is as brilliant as it is absolutely unique: The Thiele TA01. Helmut Thiele, the legend behind both extraordinary components, has poured his vast experience and all his knowledge from over 40 years of German analog engineering into the design and manufacture of the TT01 and the TA01. The result is nothing less than a new super-reference for music lovers who simply want to enjoy music perfectly.

The Chassis

Music is vibration – and that is why unwanted vibrations can disturb music particularly severely. Record players must defy these vibrations – and in the TT01, the expression "form follows function" is filled with new, stylish life. The subtly visible constrained layer damping makes the TT01 a vibration-free zone and offers the TA01 tonearm (here exclusively with XLR connection) the best working conditions: Three layers of selected wood materials and bamboo, connected by a special adhesive layer, keep disturbances from the drive motor and vibrations from the surface away from the tonearm and cartridge. On the bottom level, three height-adjustable feet couple the entire turntable to the base. The drive motor, motor control, and connection terminal are also housed there. The middle level carries only the armboard and the tonearm. The top level houses the platter bearing and the control keypad.

No vibration can bridge the transition from level to level – only impressive stillness reigns here. This is also thanks to the external power supply, which provides the motor, whose speed can be finely regulated in both settings, with clean energy. The result of this material mix and construction is an impressive quietness of the drive unit. All disturbances from the drive level to the tonearm level are effectively reduced.

The Drive

The drive technology of the TT01, thought out down to the smallest detail, was developed in cooperation with analog specialist Walter Fuchs. The 12-volt AC motor runs at just 8.5 volts to control the heat development of the motor. Excessive heat would lead to unwanted expansion of the axle and bushing of the motor bearing.

An external, stabilized power supply provides the control electronics with power. It generates the operating voltage so precisely that sound-damaging influences from the power supply are excluded.

On the back of the drive unit, there are two small potentiometers with which the control frequency for both speeds (33 and 45 rpm) can be finely adjusted separately. This allows you to compensate for manufacturing-related tolerances of the drive pulley, sub-platter, and belt thickness.

The Platter

The platter also consists of three components: sub-platter, acrylic disc, and outer ring. This material combination contributes to optimal damping and stabilizing of the platter. The platter bearing features a 10mm sliding bearing and a ceramic ball that always runs on a clearly defined circular ring, which is responsible for the motor's high mechanical smoothness.

All components are manufactured by elaborate handwork at Helmut Thiele's workshop in Duisburg. He perfectly tunes every turntable and every tonearm to each other. This care guarantees a unique musical experience.

The Thiele TA01 Zero Tracking Error Tonearm

The TA01 tonearm (available in combination with the TT01 exclusively with an XLR connection) combines the precise and rigid guidance of a pivoting tonearm with the advantages of a tangential tonearm. There has never been anything like this in such a consistent form. During playback, the cartridge system tracks through the groove with almost zero tracking error over the entire record, thus always having optimal contact with the groove and ensuring distortion-free scanning at every point.

The combination with what is likely the best tonearm in the world makes the Thiele TT01 a true reference turntable that reveals every single detail of a recording, no matter how small.

The Thiele TA01 in the silver finish is mounted on the drive as standard. Alternatively, the TA01X Gold can be ordered.

Finishes

The Thiele TT01 is available from the factory in two finishes: matte black and matte anthracite, and is delivered in a sturdy flight case. On request for an additional charge: chassis in any RAL color.
