Product description

The gateway to a new digital world of sound

Many music fans are suspicious of fully digital music playback systems – and in many cases, certainly not without reason. The reason, however, does not lie in any inherent inferiority of digital formats and technologies compared to analog ones, but rather in the fact that the digitization of music in its infancy (CD, later MP3, etc.) was not designed for optimal sound, but for cost savings, data efficiency, and ease of use. The Waversa Wamp 2.5 MK2 revolutionizes the history of digital audio playback. This is because the Wamp 2.5 MK2 solves a series of previously seemingly unsolvable problems that cannot be avoided even with an analog signal chain.

So, if you flinch at the thought of "digital amplifiers," you should read on very carefully. This term, which is technically not quite correct for a classic Class D amplifier, is intended – in relation to the Wamp 2.5 MK2 – to clarify that it possesses fully digital signal processing before the actual Class D amplifier stage. The Wamp 2.5 MK2 converts all analog input signals into PCM format via a high-performance 32-bit A/D converter, and an FPGA-based (Field Programmable Gate Array) chip developed by WaversaSystems called WAP (Waversa Audio Processor) converts the PCM signals (incorporating a whole host of further mathematical operations) into PWM format.

WAP and WAP/X

Waversa has understood that digital music largely ignores harmonics due to the limitation of its resolution compared to real music. WAP and WAP/X provide a remedy: WAP is an FPGA-based audio processor that interprets the digital signal to bring it closer again to an analog signal – real music. WAP/X, as an extension for WAP, then reconstructs the even-order harmonics of real music (up to the 32nd harmonic) that were lost during digital recording or digitization. This makes even digital music sound movingly authentic, spatially expansive, and natural.

Wamp 2.5 MK2 – the true digital

As a result, the Waversa Wamp 2.5 MK2 simply opens up a new, true digital world. The detail resolution of the soundstage is so fine and precise as if you were peering into the atomic interstices of the music with a microscope. And this high resolution is by no means an artificial "addition" by the amplifier: it simply sounds incredibly natural. The height of the soundstage reaches through the ceiling and is extremely pure and clearly defined down to the deepest depths. The Wamp 2.5 MK2 reproduces music precisely, finely, and without loss of resolution regardless of volume. The music plays full and rich on a huge soundstage – even at midnight at very low volumes. This is true super high-end.
