Product description
The reinterpretation of digital sound
The Waversa WDAC 3 MK2 is a true flagship that pulls out all the stops that define genuine state-of-the-art components. A fully balanced and fully discrete output stage, arguably the best Sabre converter chip currently available (the dual ESS9018K), intelligent, sound-enhancing upsampling up to 1.5MHz (!), and modular inputs that are freely configurable – exactly the way you want them. And Waversa wouldn't be Waversa if the WDAC 3 MK2 weren't packed with innovation. The premise during development was that the newly tuned WDAC3 should have the most natural, effortless sound possible: as always, the goal was an analog sound.
WAP (Waversa Audio Processor)
Waversa realized that digital music largely ignores harmonics due to resolution limitations compared to real music. WAP and WAP/X provide the solution: WAP is an FPGA-based audio processor that interprets the digital signal to bring it closer to an analog signal – real music. WAP/X, as an extension for WAP, then reconstructs the even-order harmonics of real music (up to the 32nd harmonic) that were lost during digital recording or digitization. This makes even digital music sound touchingly real, spatially wide, and natural.
WNDR (Waversa Network Direct Rendering) via Ethernet streaming module
The biggest problem with streaming networks that use DLNA is that the standard does not actually account for continuous audio streaming at all. DLNA is merely a standard for packet-based data transmission that allows multitasking Ethernet switches to function seamlessly and with consistent accuracy. This transmission method generates (white) noise during the packet buffering process, which negatively impacts the sound of audio signals significantly. WNDR is a proprietary and dedicated audio transmission protocol developed by Waversa to solve this problem. It minimizes latency in communication between network-connected devices and ensures excellent noise immunity. Furthermore, WNDR does not require any protocol conversion process, which effectively eliminates another source of error and thus improves sound quality. And last but not least, devices connected via WNDR can utilize their WAP processors (see above) even better, as they are synchronized with one another.
A switchable transformer located in the output section also offers the possibility of adjusting the sound of the Waversa WDAC 3 MK2 to personal preferences.
4 slots for 4 input modules:
- Streaming module Ethernet RJ-45 (LAN): Roon Ready, DLNA, AirPlay, WNDR (included)
- AES/EBU digital input module (available as an option)
- Coaxial digital input module (available as an option)
- Optical digital input module (available as an option)
