Product description

Prepare to be amazed!

The latest stroke of genius from Waversa Systems in Korea. Those who haven't heard it will hardly believe it: the elegant all-in-one device weighs less than two kilograms and measures just 300 x 220 x 20mm, yet the Waversa Wslim LITE delivers a large and deep soundstage with impressive precision. It is Roon Ready and supports Spotify Connect, AirPlay, WNDR, DLNA, and Bluetooth® including aptX®. It features two USB ports as well as one coaxial and one optical digital input each. There is even an FM radio on board. Thanks to the external power supply, the signal circuit is well protected from potential interference.

Fully digital signal processing

The Waversa Wslim LITE is a fully digital receiver with a PPBTL amplifier (see next section). Anyone who flinches at the thought of "digital amplifiers" should pay close attention now. The term, which is technically not quite accurate for a classic Class-D amplifier, is intended—with regard to the Wslim LITE—to clarify that its signal processing prior to the actual Class-D amplifier is fully digital. Even the analog signals from the FM tuner are digitized in high resolution (24-bit/384kHz). An FPGA-based (Field Programmable Gate Array) chip developed by Waversa Systems called WAP (Waversa Audio Processor) then converts the digital signals directly into the PWM format (incorporating a whole host of further mathematical operations) — instead of generating PWM from the analog signal as is the case with almost all other amps.

PPBTL amplifier (Para-Para-Bridge-Tied Load)

Waversa amplifiers have an extraordinarily low output impedance. They are optimized for extremely stable power delivery even into low loads, as this is the only way to guarantee the best sound quality under all conditions. Depending on the power supply used, extremely high, stable power levels are possible. This specific configuration means that nominal power ratings into higher loads (4 and 8 ohms) appear quite moderate on paper — yet traditional power specifications into 4 or 8 ohms become obsolete due to Waversa's innovative output stage. Users can (in future models) select the power output via the menu to achieve the optimal sound performance for the speakers being used. In reality, however, stability into all loads means maximum control and guarantees an extremely powerful and distortion-free playback under almost any conditions.

The output stage of the Wslim LITE consists of a parallel structure of eight alternating normal and inverse-phase output amplifier modules per channel. In this way, the gain factor can be reduced in each of the individual output amplifiers, thereby significantly reducing conventional artifacts that result from (too) high gain factors and affect sound quality ("harsh," less sensitive sound in bridge mode). In addition, the output impedance is very low.

WAP (Waversa Audio Processor)

Waversa has understood that digital music largely ignores harmonics due to its limited resolution compared to real music. WAP and WAP/X provide a remedy: WAP is an FPGA-based audio processor that interprets the digital signal to bring it closer to an analog signal—real music. WAP/X, as an extension for WAP, then reconstructs the even-order harmonics of real music (up to the 32nd harmonic) that were lost during digital recording or digitization. This makes even digital music sound poignantly real, spatially wide, and natural.

WNDR (Waversa Network Direct Rendering)

A major problem with streaming networks that use DLNA is that the standard does not actually account for continuous audio streaming at all. DLNA is merely a standard for packet-based data transmission that allows multitasking Ethernet switches to function seamlessly and with consistent precision. With this transmission method, (white) noise is generated during the packet buffering process, which negatively impacts the sound of audio signals. WNDR is a proprietary and dedicated audio transmission protocol developed by Waversa to solve this problem. It minimizes latency (delays) in the communication of connected network devices and ensures excellent noise immunity. Furthermore, WNDR requires no conversion process between protocols, which effectively eliminates another source of error and thus improves sound quality. Last but not least, devices connected via WNDR can utilize their WAP processors (see above) even better, as they are synchronized with one another.
